Thanks Lentil, but you aren't the type of person who I engage with Grin

'claim' to be a HCP nearly made me fall off my chair with laughter so thanks for that Grin

The figures were out for UK by this time yesterday. It’s disconcerting that they have not been published. I’m expecting a leap in numbers. Why is UK holding back?

They only tested around 2000 people didn’t they? The usual prior to the past few days.

MarshaBradyo · 12/03/2020 14:28

Ok so they’re in the meeting now? With announcement to follow.

I don’t think they’ll be riots over this, as long as people can eat that is. Well, depending on just what the situation is.

Qwaffee · 12/03/2020 14:28

Does anyone have yesterday’s testing figures or know how many were actually tested since yesterday? Just wondering if they have increased yet.

KarenTookTheKids · 12/03/2020 14:29

Zippy, see previous posts, ofwarren is on the ball as usual!

ofwarren · 12/03/2020 14:29

What a surprise.

user127819 · 12/03/2020 14:30

@Number12 Yes, 10. 8 were confirmed as of this morning and two more have just been confirmed so weren't in the update.

KarenTookTheKids · 12/03/2020 14:31

Deft, that was my thought too

Glittercandle · 12/03/2020 14:31

That’s a large increase in Scotland - does anyone know of they are mainly in the same area or dotted around?

Fourducksate · 12/03/2020 14:31

BBC - An infectious disease modeler Prof Deirdre Hollingsworth, of Oxford University - whoever thought such a job exists!

"UK want to try and flatten the curve to 'manage' things, to prevent a peak that overwhelms the NHS.

Using Italy as an example, which we want to avoid in the UK.

Avoid high density areas, we have to make our own choices how to protect ourselves on travelling, handwashing, then we benefit everyone by slowing it down"

Looks like she's on the same wavelength as our 'eye candy' Prof. at UCL and Chris Whitty.

They seem to know what they're doing! Just frustrating for the rest of us.

namechangemania · 12/03/2020 14:32

590 positive cases Shock

zippyswife · 12/03/2020 14:32

Thanks @ofwarren it took me so long to type the message I missed the update ConfusedGrin

Not sure why anywhere would be assumed safe. Shetland has lots of kids who go to school as weekly boarders in Aberdeen, also oil industry = lots overseas travel (generally).
I live in rural Scotland (not Shetland!) nearest village a couple miles away, of about 5,000 people with 1 confirmed case and 3 being tested.

cjt110 · 12/03/2020 14:32

Yesterday
Total UK cases COVID-19 Cases Update as of 09:00 (GMT) on 11/03/2020 Yesterday

Total UK cases 456
Daily Confirmed Cases 83
Total UK deaths 6

England 387
Scotland36
Wales15
N. Ireland 18

TODAY 590 positive in the UK. An increase of 134 in 24 hours. Breakdown on the dashboard yet to be updated.

Dunlurking · 12/03/2020 14:32

Qwaffee yesterdays’s figures were 27,020 tested, 456 positive, 6 died, todays 29,174 test, 590 positive, 8 died. But I don’t think the 2 recent deaths are part of the 8 - so 10 deaths really? Not impressed with test numbers - looking at the ratio of deaths to positive results, which we hope would be 1%ish, we’re missing a lot of positives by only testing 2000/day.

Was sadly expecting to see a considerable rise today due to the announcement earlier this week that from Tuesday patients in hospital with existing respiratory illness would all be tested even if they did not fit usual testing criteria.

Dramalamaindeed · 12/03/2020 14:33

@Glittercandle

They are mostly dotted around. 6 is the most in any one area I think.

Oakmaiden · 12/03/2020 14:34

Problem is, early indications are that our trajectory isn't any flatter than Italy... and by the time we know for sure it will be too late for 100s of people.

MangePasTesOnglesVilain · 12/03/2020 14:34

My sons uni closing from Monday.

Not saying which as can't be bothered name changing again as someone I know is on here. But 'up north' if you're from 'down south'.

Random18 · 12/03/2020 14:35

Scottish cases are a geographical spread. Highest number of cases are in greater glasgow (biggest population? ) and Lothian (Edinburgh area)

Oakmaiden · 12/03/2020 14:35

Effectively 10 deaths mean there were probably 1000 actual cases 17 days ago.
