Face Masks...

So far I haven’t been too worried about the corona virus but for some reason tonight it just seems to have hit me like a ton of bricks and I’m panicking! I’m not panic buying, I have usual amounts in cupboards etc and just normal amount of loo roll, and my sons have been great so far with hand washing etc and even make a game out of it. I think it’s just now I’ve heard the word PANDEMIC it’s just made me sick with worry. Sorry if this has been asked before (there are SO many coronavirus threads!!) however I wanted to know if getting some face masks for my kids and me and DH is a good idea or is it not much help? My son isn’t well atm and off school (not corona!) we have to go to the pharmacy and I have no childcare so will have to take them with me. I’m just thinking of the people waiting on prescriptions etc who might possibly be infected? I suppose I’m just trying to prevent the kids getting it as much as I can, as any parent would! My youngest is only 18 months. So are face masks a good idea for when going out? Or waste of money?

My friend is an ICU nurse...very experienced and she told me that you might as well sellotape some tissue to your face for all the good most facemasks do.

Good luck with getting any at this point anyway but only a really heavy duty medical one would do you any real good I would think.

The photo of the Italian nurse bruised because of her goggles make me realise face masks alone aren’t effective.

Thank you for all your replies - I’ll just wrap them up warm And cosy and hope for the best!! Just feel a little anxious as we try protect our kids as much as possible but it’s just one of those things that’s out with our control (other than extra careful hygiene of course!). Hopefully a magic cure is coming soon Hmm
