No.

I think the people baying first this have no imagination that they cannot imagine what a Wuhan/Italy lockdown will mean.

It wont mean getting a non peak holiday to Centre Parcs.

Purplewhitelie · 11/03/2020 20:03

The ones saying no do you have parents? You do know there is a 15% death rate for that age group?

Are you not concerned about them at all?

Number12 · 11/03/2020 20:07

Yes.

TSSDNCOP · 11/03/2020 20:07

Yes, thank you Purple given most of us can demonstrably read. Pretty sure most Nannas would like to see their grandchildren pass their exams and get to Uni too.

Helpwithaversion · 11/03/2020 20:09

Yes mine have been off a while already I’m taking no chances

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/03/2020 20:14

@Purplewhitelie my mum is 51, so no, she's not in that age group. What I am concerned about is not being able to pay my bills if I have to stay off work indefinitely with my child.

Devlesko · 11/03/2020 20:27

Whose turning their nose up at working parents? I'm turning my nose up at a system we've all become used to that is going to crumble during this crisis.
I have children who have to work, one dil pg, and I have a grandchild. Pil, in high risk group, stocked up over months and hibernating now.
I know what life is like for all of these people

The economy has been proved to be worth more than life, the reasons schools are still open is to keep the economy going, by providing childcare for workers, in this instance.
It's the government who should have acted.

HoffiCoffi13 · 11/03/2020 20:28

Purplewhitelie yes I do, my mum is 59. She’s a front line NHS worker so more at risk from that than from my children I imagine.

idontlike789 · 11/03/2020 20:34

Yes
You do know there is a 15% death rate for that age group? So 85 % chance they will survive!

Are you not concerned about them at all?
Of course but we can't actually stay home , I have a job to do , I can't get my head round the fact that they think schools should close yet . Schools close people can't work , people can't work then what happens then all the police, doctors, nurses , shop assistants, delivery drivers etc etc ? . You think it's like if there is a snow day of Christmas holidays no difference is snow day is not the whole country and Christmas is not the whole country off people still work or it's planned in advance . To just close for 2 weeks or longer would be catastrophic to the economy.

You stay home if you want but the world carry's on .

Siameasy · 11/03/2020 20:35

No way. My DD has started lecturing me on handwashing now.

BlueJava · 11/03/2020 20:37

Yes I do. I've been told to wfh too.

IKEA888 · 11/03/2020 20:38

no

YeOldeNameChange · 11/03/2020 20:40

DH and I are both police officers and many officers are married to other officers-I wouldn’t be surprised if this was similar for other emergency services workers. Many women work in teaching or healthcare too and it is often the women who end up taking time off isn’t it?

I get the impression people think emergency services workers are invincible. I feel my organisation does. I think we are more likely to get it for a lot of reasons.

5zeds · 11/03/2020 20:44

Yes. We can manage and I DO think it will slow things and help.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 11/03/2020 20:48

Yes. I can wfh and they're in primary school.

Is there any good reason to keep sending them?

flowerycurtain · 11/03/2020 20:48

No

doubleshotespresso · 11/03/2020 20:54

For utterly selfish reasons as my SEND child is really struggling since half-term (& frankly just needs the bloody break)I would love it despite the fact the break in routine would generate some negative fallout for us.
My parents are both very much "at risk".
I also think the whole of the UK needs to sit still and think for a short time.
Practically and financially we would be very challenged if this was announced tomorrow, but like all things worth doing, it's not always easy

idontlike789 · 11/03/2020 21:05

I think if you can wfh and you want to keep you kids off great do it , but except that it's not practical for everyone else.

IdentifyasTired · 11/03/2020 21:23

I would gladly keep them at home. I'm in a higher risk group as are my parents. I'm also a SAHM with a DH who can work from home so for us the pros outweighs the cons.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 11/03/2020 22:23

Well, I've made a decision - keeping them at home tomorrow and for the foreseeable future. Regardless of whether or not we get it, I think fewer kids at school will only help slow transmission rate/flatten the curve.

Evenquieterlife33 · 11/03/2020 22:51

It would be good to have the option for people who can manage to work from home and keep kids home to be able to do it. It would mean less kids moving around together, surely that would help. Our school are supposed to be going ahead with a residential trip in the next ten days. I think it’s mental, moving 90 kids to another area to mix with another 250 kids. Let them mingle then bring em all back to their own communities. Absolute madness.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 11/03/2020 22:54

Yes, that sounds mad, Even.

AlphaJura · 12/03/2020 18:01

They've just announce that anyone with mild symptoms must stay home for 7 days. Mine have been off for 2/3 days already with a combination of sore throat/cough and temperature. Usually the school try and force you to send them in as they don't want attendance dropping below 96%. Mine are at about 90% so theoretically I could incure a fine but after this announcement they'd have a hard time implementing it! I've got a toddler at nursery and she won't be going. They pick up enough bugs as it is. I have an 102 year old grandmother who I'm very concerned about (even though she seems well at present).

FacingtheAbess · 12/03/2020 18:03

Yes

HavenDilemma · 12/03/2020 18:03

Yes!!!!
