Sure there have been other posts pertaining to this but I'm starting to be tempted based on the unavvailable items on Sainsurys (online shopping).

I’ve bought a couple of bags of pasta, some sauce and couscous and started freezing (and finding space for) extra portions I’m cooking each night. Nothing crazy but useful and it’ll get eaten virus or not!

Nanasueathome · 11/03/2020 08:31

I use Ocado and placed an order last week for this week
It’s coming today, all there, no substitutes and no missing items

elQuintoConyo · 11/03/2020 08:37

No... But then I don't want to limit what those on a tight week-by-week budget can buy. Not everyone has spare cash to do a double or triple shop. I imagine food bank users will be fucked.

I have porridge and biscuit-making equipment, we'll be ok for a couple of weeks!

millerjane · 11/03/2020 08:39

I certainly don't want to add to the panic but I live my parents (early 20s and commute into London).

My father is a cancer survivor but generally always recovering from chest infections etc.

My mum works in a hospital and is occassionally called into AandE for her opinion.

Not to brag but I stay ready so I don't have to get ready.... As in I've been a low level prepper all my life. But I'm not going to lie I still feel surprised I am actually living to see something like this when I may well need it. Only thing I didn't have enough of was guinea pig food and saw dust so rectified that and have planted lots of quick growing lettuce, radishes and spinach incase getting fresh food greens becomes hard for a month or two. And if everything is fine will be low cost fresh food for my piglets the animal kind not my hungry DCs 😁😂

BiddyPop · 11/03/2020 08:41

I haven’t “stockpiled” - I have my normal level of supplies in, including emergency items, and have been shopping as normal.

Actually, no, sorry, I have bought a bottle of oat milk to try, as that is long life (DH and DD go through litres of fresh milk so I want something for my coffee if we run out). I had been intending to try it for a while but this just gave me the imperative to.

wondering7777 · 11/03/2020 08:43

I've just booked an Ocado - the earliest slot is Tuesday night next week, which is very unusual in my area (normally you can get next day delivery during the week).

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 11/03/2020 08:45

I have a good supply of everything in anyway, enough for 2 or 3 weeks if I'm careful. I have a large family and doing my usual shop this week has resulted in me being called ridiculous Grin I did add a whole bunch of tins I wouldnt normally have to donate to the food bank though, they are struggling already in this area.

Nanalisa60 · 11/03/2020 08:46

Yesterday decided to cook two of everything this week and put one in the freezer I cooked two moussaka, tonight will make two lasagnas, tomorrow two Shepard’s pie, then two fish pies, then cottage pie, and at weekend I will do some soup and base curry sauce. Made sure have enough tea bags, not because I don’t think there won’t be food in the shops but because maybe I won’t want to go for a few weeks.

Butterwhy · 11/03/2020 08:46

No, I always have a bit extra in though so haven't needed to. I would be looking to get a bit more than usual in if I hadn't just in case, but only a bag of pasta, for example, rather than 20.

Isthistrueor · 11/03/2020 08:46

No because I’m not a selfish idiot.

Enchiladas · 11/03/2020 08:47

Ironically I've had to stockpile Calpol and baby ibuprofen but only because of the stock pilers. My baby is having his cleft palate surgery soon and he will need those medicines once home from hospital as he recovers so I can't risk there being none / not enough left when he needs it.

MovinOnUp · 11/03/2020 08:53

I didn't need to.

I always have lots of everything we would need for at least 5/6 weeks.

A combination of OCD, Having previously been on UC and lived in fear of money being stopped for no reason and living in an area where I have previously been snowed in (not in recent years but the fear is still there)

Nanalisa60 · 11/03/2020 08:54

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult

Thank you for reminding me about the food bank!! Will get some tins and pasta , and pasta sauce pack of toilet roll, and drop them off at food bank after the gym today!!

If you have spare time and spare money maybe others could try and do this sometime this week.

QuarterPastMidnight · 11/03/2020 08:56

No I can't afford to.
Our budget is £40 per week for a family of 3 so we have to be very careful. I'm trying to buy foods with a longer shelf life eg UHT milk instead of fresh but definitely not more than I usually do.

It's incredibly selfish of those who have to be honest.

We're struggling.

wondering7777 · 11/03/2020 08:56

Just to add that I'm not actually stockpiling - just trying to do my usual Ocado shop!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/03/2020 08:57

No, because I volunteer in a place where we hand out food parcels and people who cannot afford to stockpile are coming to us begging for items that they can't find in the shops because selfish people are panic buying them all.

If you're going to stockpile then at least buy a few items for the food bank and think about people in poverty who are going to suffer because of it.

bellinisurge · 11/03/2020 08:59

Slowly built stuff up several months ago. I'm a general prepper. No Deal Brexit risk helped get dh on board a few months ago but I would have done it ready. We topped up our stash in December/January. No need to go to shops now. Have a normal delivery booked but can manage without.

Seeitsortit · 11/03/2020 08:59

After being snowed in for a few days the other year I tend to have bits in - plus the prices can be a bit on the high side in the local shops for some stuff/limited brands.
Not buying anything in extra, that way they’ll be enough for all

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 11/03/2020 09:00

I already have stuff from last year. Child with a disability and on carers allowance so couldn't afford to spend enough on a fortnights worth of food in one go if me or the children are ill.

BarbedBloom · 11/03/2020 09:01

We can't really afford to. I have bought an extra tin of something for the past two shops and extra yeast to make my own bread. We could manage for seven days anyway, worst case we have tons of porridge oats as I keep meaning to have breakfast but never seem to have enough time

crispysausagerolls · 11/03/2020 09:01

No, because I’m not a selfish arsehole!

JaceLancs · 11/03/2020 09:03

No
I bought 2 packs of toilet rolls but that was only because it was a better offer!
My freezers are always full so could probably live for a month or more
I would struggle most with fresh fruit, salads and vegetables as I shop at least twice a week for them

coconuttelegraph · 11/03/2020 09:04

Sure there have been other posts pertaining to this

Hundreds and a whole topic for CV posts, YABU to start a new thread in the wrong place on a subject that's been done to death.

Porcupineinwaiting · 11/03/2020 09:04

Why is it selfish @crispysausage? I would have though coming down with a high temperature and cough and then going shopping was far more selfish.

There is plenty of food in the shops so if some have got extra in it's not hurting anyone.
