Coronavirus. Holiday in Spain. HELP

stormslushy · 10/03/2020 18:31

Hi,

Me and my partner have a holiday to Torremolinos in Spain booked for the 31st of March for 4 nights. Do we cancel? I'm not particularly fussed about the corona virus but maybe I'm being silly.

Please give me your advice, either a) 100% cancel and why or b) don't cancel and why

Thanks.

Get insurance. Wait and see

EndlessUserName · 10/03/2020 18:32

And get this moved to the coronavirus topic instead ... Wink

ButtWormHole · 10/03/2020 18:35

I think us strangers on the internet definitely know the answer to this for you

idontlike789 · 10/03/2020 18:35

I'd wait and see , I'm going to Spain in May saved up all year and really looking forward to it so I want to go . If it gets like Italy then no but only until it's advised to cancel . I know lots of people booked to go away in the next few weeks and Easter isn't far . My dd goes away beginning of April and she's worried but again is only not going if it's cancelled advised not to travel .

Ponoka7 · 10/03/2020 18:35

As said get insurance and go.

Why? Because it's in the UK and you're in as much risk at catching it if you stay. I would only cancel if you are vulnerable or care for someone vulnerable and you couldn't self isolate if you needed to.

Greenmarmalade · 10/03/2020 18:35

A) cancel.

You could get stuck there;
Everything might shut doen while you’re there;
You might need to self-isolate on return.

constantlyseekinghappiness · 10/03/2020 18:36

Following this - we have a holiday booked to Barcelona on the 26th. We haven’t decided yet what to do. My concern is flights being cancelled when we’re out there, similar to the cancellations to and from Italy at the moment.

Ginfordinner · 10/03/2020 18:37

Get insurance. Wait and see

Insurance should already be in place. I doubt very much that buying insurance now will cover coronavirus. This is a classic example of why holiday insurance should be taken out at time of booking.

Hellodotdotdot · 10/03/2020 18:40

Maybe all travel in europe should stop?

Partner says we have to go to sweden this week and their numbers are about the same as ours

DrMaryMalone · 10/03/2020 18:45

I'm due to go on a 2 night work related field trip to spain with around 20 others on 1st April. Not completely the same as I won't be out of pocket if its cancelled but with 2 young kids at home being stuck there would be a bit of a nightmare. We are planning to go at the moment but regularly reviewing the situation (diddle diddle dum!)

Worriedmom2020 · 10/03/2020 18:50

Insurance isn't going to cover coronavirus now! It's like insuring a burning building! Pointless.

Go if you cant cancel and stay home if you already have insurance

PawPawNoodle · 10/03/2020 18:52

How are we supposed to HELP you? Make your own decisions.

stormslushy · 10/03/2020 18:57

@PolPotNoodle @ButtWormHole you guys are cheerful! Do you know what Mumsnet is for? Asking for advice? Sharing opinions? Asking questions to strangers?

hugs to you both as you seem very angry.

Thanks so much everyone else! Great advice so far...

We have the exact same problem. Holiday to Barcelona booked for the 4th April for a week. Already got insurance. I'm waiting to see if other colleagues go ahead with travel plans. I personally think we are in as much danger here as there. I'm worried about flights being cancelled though.

vhs95 · 10/03/2020 19:03

I'm in Fuengirola at the mo and wouldn't have missed it for some media hysteria. Only you can decide though.

MurrayTheMonk · 10/03/2020 19:03

If your existing instance covers travel disruption you might be ok-they will pay expenses incurred if you get stuck out there or ill.

If not I'd Give it a miss-unless you can afford to fund yourself in self isolation if needs be out there.

user1488464056 · 10/03/2020 19:04

I'm booked to go to the Costa del Sol next week. I also have Bronchiectasis, which means I cough constantly so people tend to give me a wide berth anyway😂. No plans to cancel, unless directed otherwise. Will just carry on with my current hand washing and being careful regime. Taking extra supplies of my daily meds just in case the need to isolate occurs while I'm there.

LilyMumsnet · 10/03/2020 19:07

We're just moving this over to the right topic now. Flowers

curlycat · 10/03/2020 19:07

I'm in Lanzarote right now. Business as usual. Saw one person with a mask on between Glasgow airport and here.
You can still get cover for a outbreak of whatever. We did it just before we came out here fir my daughter who us off to spain in june

PawPawNoodle · 10/03/2020 19:08

@stormslushy not angry, just disappointed that two grown adults can't decide what to do without coming on to the wrong section of MN to court the views of people that literally don't care. There is so much information available which is just being repeated to you here.

Thanks for the hug though babes, appreciate it 😘

Filler44 · 10/03/2020 19:09

We were due to fly to Rome this coming Sunday.
Last week one wanted to stay one go.
By the weekend with the way things were going both decided not to.
Despite spending several hours on the phone could not get hold of easyjet customer service to discuss.
Resigned ourselves to losing around £900
Today with the new FCO notification heard we are going to get refunded.

stormslushy · 10/03/2020 19:12

@PolPotNoodle I'm disappointed that you've wasted your own time sharing your opinion with me (someone who simply does not care) ❤️

We are meant to go to New York next Wednesday for 5 days. We’ll be leaving two late teens at home and even though I’m sure they’d be fine the thought of us being quarantined for two weeks over there fills me with horror. We have no family really to help us out and there is the real fear that the UK will also lock down like Italy has and they’ll be forced to stay inside.
I wish the FCO would stop all international travel at least then the decision is made. If we cancel ourselves now we lose a lot of money.

Josette77 · 10/03/2020 19:21

New York has issued a state of emergency.

Roselilly36 · 10/03/2020 19:48

We have cancelled our trip to Spain, we were due to travel next week, I have an autoimmune condition though so for our family it wasn’t worth the risk.
