Does anyone know what happens if a country bans uk citizens from entering?

I have spoken to my insurance company and they don’t seem to think they cover this, although it’s not mentioned in the policy wording either way.
Some countries such as India have revoked visas for people from countries such as Italy an Iran. We are traveling in 3 weeks and in concerned these bans could extend to people from the uk. Do you think my credit card company would refund for the bookings as I can’t find a travel insurance policy that covers this?

I was researching this yesterday and found nothing of comfort.

I found a recent case where a. Insurance coming refused to pay out to a couple who were told that they could only get on the connecting flight to their destination if they agreed to quarantine for 14 days. They obviously couldn't do this so had to abandon their holiday plans. The insurance company only agreed to pay out after a newspaper contacted them and then it was only a good will gesture.

My hope for my forthcoming trip to Thailand is that if the Thai government make it difficult for UK travellers to enter , the airline will have to cancel flights. If that happens we would get a refund from the airline and then can claim back our hotel costs under the travel disruption cover we have included in our travel insurance policy.

I'm by no means certain that this will be the case but I can only hope.

We're just on the phone to our insurance company as it looks likely that the visas we've already got will be revoked. Not getting any encouraging news... Seems like they will treat it the same as a visa not being issued in the first place.

@rallytog1 oh that’s not good news. Can I ask where you are traveling to?

This is something that is worrying me as we are due to travel to UAE on 31 March and it seems like that they are steadily ramping up their entry restrictions. We stand to lose £6.5k. We have booked a package with a travel agent so I am hoping that gives us additional protection.

We're meant to be going to India @Mirrorxx. How about you?

Mirrorxx · 10/03/2020 20:12

@rallytog1 we are also going to India in April

Some travel companies were offering alternative destinations I believe.

@Mirrorxx Sad

@rallytog1 it has happened as I feared then. No idea if we will get any money back and so annoyed I paid for the visas last week
