Soft play party on weekend

funday · 10/03/2020 14:01

My DD has her birthday party at a local soft play centre on the weekend.
I have called the centre to check there have been no coronavirus cases linked to there. They also said they are working with the council etc on having the right cleaning procedure, anti bad available....
What is the consensus on going ahead with the party? Majority of my thinks go ahead, kids are still going to school etc. Other part of me thinks it is an unnecessary risk and I don't want to put kids at risk.
What is the right thing to do?

I’ve just been to the soft play with a baby. It was busy still 🤷‍♀️

minipie · 10/03/2020 14:13

Watching as I’m in the exact same position. Everyone I know seems to be carrying on as normal so I think the current plan is to go ahead. We have exclusive hire (it’s a small place) and they are all at school together anyway so that helps - but I imagine another group will have had it just before us and I doubt how effectively you can clean a soft play in the small window between.

Yes it is an unnecessary risk but so are many non essential things that people are still doing every day... bars and cafes and gyms around us are still busy... school trips still running... smaller sports fixtures going ahead...

We went late last week and the soft play centre was spotless. I think they've really had to step up cleaning because if word got out about cases being linked with them, it'd likely be the end of their business.

NotGenerationAlpha · 10/03/2020 14:24

I'm in a similar situation but for end of this month. I think, given the kids are at school together, I'll go ahead still. However, I've prepped by DC that if school gets cancelled, then the party will be cancelled too.

Unfortunately you can't see the virus! And kids are very good at spreading it, touching heir faces etc etc.

DressingGownofDoom · 10/03/2020 14:29

I would just continue as normal.

averythinline · 10/03/2020 14:29

I would go ahead but expect cancellations... make doubly sure they wash hands properly before eating..

RachelEllenRE · 10/03/2020 14:43

Ask everyone to wash their hands on arrival and before eating.

Another for go ahead, i went to soft play at the weekend with 3yr old and 10mth old. Cases are still more or less contained here to people who have been to the high risk countries. While not impossible the risk of infection is still very low at present

GameSetMatch · 10/03/2020 14:52

I think it will be one of the last weekends you will be able to go to soft play in awhile so maybe go but make sure children wash hands before eating and regularly whilst playing. I’m going tomorrow after the school run for the last time. There’s been nobody with the virus in my borough so I think it’s ok but depends where you live too.

Snotalot · 10/03/2020 15:31

I have the same issue with my son who has been invited. We have cases in our town currently too. Not sure what to do.

jhowesuk · 10/03/2020 15:34

I'm going through same thing and have just cancelled my son's party this saturday. My family was pressuring me to cancel and I decided it was in my best interest to stop disagreeing with them and respect their wishes. Its no big deal, I'll just rebook the party when things calm down.

Queenscake · 10/03/2020 15:35

Coronavirus will carry on unless everyone takes it seriously! Good luck!

funday · 10/03/2020 16:37

Thanks all. Consensus is to go ahead... will see how the rest if the week goes!

We have two softplay parties this coming weekend.

We'll go to both (unless cancelled)

No confirmed cases in our London borough [yet Shock]
