It is numbers. What are you thinking?

slipperywhensparticus · 10/03/2020 08:14

What's a worldometer

Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 08:15

Just let’s you form your own opinion on it as shows speed of infection, how different countries have been infected, new countries and critical lists.

It even does the maths for you if you scroll down Smile

I've been watching it closely. It's fascinating

Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 08:16

Google worldometer coronavirus.

OP posts:
Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 08:16

Yes it is fascinating!

Linguaphile · 10/03/2020 08:17

It’s the only website I really look at for the virus. Hard numbers all with reputable cited sources. Makes for fascinating (if macabre) reading when the tallies start to come in at the end of each day.

FAQs · 10/03/2020 08:18

Yes I find it interesting, China new cases have slowed right down over the past week.

Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 08:19

Yes.

OP posts:
Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 08:20

Although China has been on lock down. Not really possible here on that kind of level.

Link

Knocksomesense · 10/03/2020 08:27

I wrote a thread saying I felt that this site was portraying worse figures than the reported estimates and it got deleted really quickly

Flaxmeadow · 10/03/2020 08:27

It's not very good
I prefer this one

www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.html#/85320e2ea5424dfaaa75ae62e5c06e61

Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 08:28

OK.

OP posts:
Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 08:29

It’s stats from public health around the world. Not sure how you can argue with it.

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 10/03/2020 08:33

One thing I don't understand , if you barely test people ( as the UK are doing, they will only test if you have direct contact with a person who has been to one of the countries)- how do the figures record accurately ? It cannot show any other data than the one tested and cannot show person to person transmittion ?

Do you mean worldometers numbers? I've not found them to be wrong at all. In what sense?

Knocksomesense · 10/03/2020 08:38

@sylbunny no. My opinion is that the world meter stats are worrying and that l have heard is media scaremongering but the statistics to me look bad. I haven't particularly heard the statistics being discussed. But then I'm not that widely read on the subject.

Eg the ratios for China are way off the ratios for most other countries therefore chinese statistics, IMO are not accurate. Therefore I believe it's worse than reported

Flaxmeadow · 10/03/2020 08:42

@Purplewhitelie
The arcgis site I linked has a good interactive global map. It has mobile and desktop versions
I just find it easier to navigate. Seems more professional

Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 08:54

I will have a look at that one then thanks.

OP posts:
Purplewhitelie · 10/03/2020 09:51

Yeh that ones quite good as well.

OP posts:
Jerseygaly · 10/03/2020 10:33

You have to assume the UK figures are many times higher than shown because as p.p. Says they aren't looking at community transmission
They know at certain numbers who would expect actions...
I'm concerned they are letting it run not attepting to slow as 1 hit would be better for economy.
I

KarenTookTheKids · 10/03/2020 10:38

I like the arcgis map too but it hasn't been updating the individual country stats for me since yesterday afternoon. Anyone else had that problem?

ShastaBeast · 10/03/2020 10:45

I find the Worldometer one is just more up to date. Usually the John Hopkins version updates to the same figures later on. Sometimes the total figure isn’t far behind at all, it’s just a timing difference.

I think China is doing amazingly well but with draconian isolation policies. It makes sense. The worrying stats are Iranian - their recovered numbers make no sense at all. I suspect they have completely made them up. But they are the same on either site as we can only rely on what their government tell the WHO.
