Are shops taking advantage?

I've got an Ocado order booked for Wednesday and I've just gone into it to add a few things and I've noticed something...

There is NO loo roll or kitchen towel on offer. Not one single brand or type. Loo roll and kitchen towel is ALWAYS on offer on Ocado; at least 1 or 2 different types. Always. I don't stick to certain brands of those 2 things; I just buy whatever is on offer. Most of both items are out of stock but every single one is full price.

Hmmm. Am I being cynical to think Ocado don't need to bother putting either of these 2 products on offer at the moment as we will happily pay full price? Hmm

Or there are shortages from eejits panic buying so they've taken the offers off to discourage bulk buying to make their stocks last longer...

It’s a bit difficult to have an offer on goods that people are stockpiling/panic buying.

Hugglespuffed · 08/03/2020 22:22

I think itll be because people are stockpiling. Whilst it is great for supermarkets to be raking in the money, they are also trying to protect the public and make sure everyone gets a fair chance at buying stuff. This stockpiling is ridiculous and utterly selfish.

RogueV · 08/03/2020 22:23

Agree
I’m a regular Ocado shopper and there is hardly anything on offer

Although a lot of items are also out of stock which is highly annoying

Sparklingbrook · 08/03/2020 22:26

The panic buying/prepping/ stockpiling is so unfair, and is causing so many problems for people.

NormaLouiseBates · 08/03/2020 22:45

Good point that maybe they're trying to make it more fair for everyone. I like that theory. Don't like to think of Ocado taking advantage of the situation!

@RogueV I've never seen so much out of stock. Not even at Christmas. It's bonkers.

I think a lot more people are choosing to have supermarket delivery too where they wouldn’t have done before all the panic.

I had my tesco delivery today and 16 pack of loo roll and carex handwash were both still on offer and in stock (I was just buying usual quantities)
