www.nhs.uk/conditions/sars/

The death rate in confirmed cases was quite high. But it did not seem to be as infectious. 4 cases in the UK.

So a fair amount of concern about what could happen with a novel virus, but the actual outbreaks never became worryingly widespread

It killed it's victims too quickly for it to be able to spread and was not particularly contagious. An effective virus is one which can spread easily without killing it's host.

Only 8000 cases worldwide and 700 deaths. Not even comparable to what’s happening now!!
Is the the mother of all pandemics????

SARS cases were mainly confined to SE Asia and the reaction there was pretty much like it is here for CORViD-19 now

It was on the news a lot and everyone in the affected areas was eating masks but that didn't happen here at all.

I think HIV was more scary, in terms of the public service announcements on TV etc.
