Carrie7469 · 08/03/2020 21:08

just after some opinions please

Myself and DH are booked to go to Tenerife in two weeks. He is almost 70 and has a heart condition and diabetes.

Would you go, cancel or wait and see?

Following. We have Lanzarote booked over Easter and no idea what to do. Half of our party wants to cancel and the rest don’t. Some of us hav3 underlying health conditions.

TippledPink · 08/03/2020 21:14

I am going Tenerife in 2 weeks- definitely going but we have no health issues. There are way more people with the virus in England then in Tenerife so you would be safer there than here.

Carrie7469 · 08/03/2020 21:20

I agree that there are fewer people infected in Tenerife than in the UK. It’s really the airport and the aeroplane which concern me more

I’m in Tenerife right now and am loving it
Is there anything I can help you with

TippledPink · 08/03/2020 21:43

I would just be extra caregul- lots of washing hands, sanitiser, maybe disposable gloves?

Dowser · 08/03/2020 21:43

Oh and my husband has a heart condition..and he’s loving it too

DartmoorChef · 08/03/2020 21:48

Im going to lanzarote on Saturday and i cant wait.

Dowser · 08/03/2020 22:00

The weather has been just beautiful
Lovely blue skies
Temps about 24/26
A bit windy yesterday..nothing too bad
Not too crowded either

indemMUND · 08/03/2020 22:09

So what if you get stuck there? I went to London for a concert two weeks ago and wouldn't chance it now. Also had travel plans through June and July in the UK and Germany which look likely to be cancelled if this gets worse. Yes enjoy the freedom of movement while we still have it but also plan for a worst case scenario.

Carrie7469 · 08/03/2020 22:25

Thanks everyone. I just don’t know if travelling is worth the risk. I know it’s a small risk but I cannot decide whether it’s worth taking. My partner would prefer not to go but I’m undecided

Would he normally travel with diabetes and a heart condition though?
My husband is 67, we’ve walked a good couple of miles today and he’s had a swim.
No worries

Carrie7469 · 09/03/2020 09:37

@dowser yes, he's normally go. He's really anxious about it, but I'm not! Can I ask if there were fewer people than usual at the airport/on the aeroplane? I'm just wondering if people are just not turning up for their flights. Thank you

Well we fly from Newcastle so not a lot of choice in flight companies now just EasyJet, thomsons and jet 2 fly this route since the demise of Thomas Cook.

not sure in Ryanair fly to this destination, their website isn’t easy to determine that.
Anyway the short answer is yes the flight was full
We were there for 7 am , flight at 9
Not many people milling around then, but was starting to pick up about 8am.
There’d been a good frost overnight, so that would’ve killed off a few germs hopefully.

There does seem to be a lot less people about which isn’t a bad thing as the walkway along by las vistas in Tenerife can get rammed
Plenty on the beach yesterday

Only he can make up his mind.
My friend flew in from Manchester on Saturday night. They’d had no problems either
Where are you meant to be staying?

Dowser · 09/03/2020 10:22

What date do you fly out.
We are here till the 25 th

rippingburrito · 09/03/2020 14:06

We're going to Tenerife on Wednesday and looking forward to it. We're not in the 'at risk' categories though.

Dowser · 14/03/2020 17:21

We are just waiting to hear when we are going to be repatriated.

No one has a clear idea of what is going on.
There’s been 1 death and 80 cases spread over all the islands.

Yet they are laying in for a siege
Ryanair and easyJet appear to be flying for now

We are just enjoying it while we can.

Dowser · 14/03/2020 17:22

Did you get out tipping burrito

Rainbowunicat · 14/03/2020 17:31

The change in tone of this thread is very sobering.
Best wishes to those who are stuck overseas, hope you get back soon. Stay safe.

QueenofDestruction · 14/03/2020 17:31

Well, it might not be your choice as Spain is in a state of national emergency it has been declared today that only food shops and pharmacies will be open is and we'd expect the measures to be come stricter, Tenerife was included in this. The news is expecting a tighter travel ban to be announced closing trains. Ports and flights.

Dowser · 14/03/2020 20:31

Yes, looks like we are going into lockdown Monday for definite, maybe tomorrow

Thank you rainbow . I’ve got a stack of books to Plough through.
Plus internet... hope that will be enough

TulipsTulipsTulips · 14/03/2020 20:34

OP, I wouldn’t go. Your husband is in a high risk category. Things are going to get much worse over the next few weeks. It’s not worth the risk.

Carrie7469 · 15/03/2020 22:29

@Dowser
I hope you're OK and get back safely

Thank you Carrie
Actually the lockdown started yesterday.
We’d originally been told today.
So, we had a walk out ( unknowingly) police passed us on the beach prom and never said anything.
Today was totally different. We went to the supermarket about 10 mins away for fresh fish and a few things for supper. We o ly have a small fridge . They were limiting the numbers in the supermarket and all staff wore masks.
Our apartment block can use the hotel opposite’s pool so we went to sit there, well apart from everyone and the hotel guard came around and said it had to be closed at three o clock.

A military truck went round with a loud tannoy telling everyone on the streets to go home. This time they hammered the message across in Spanish, Italian and English.
Unbelievably thomsons flew people across on Friday. Surely they could see where this was going?

We aren’t meant to be repatriated until the 25 th but I think they may come for us sooner.
Such a shame , it was a beautiful day today.
