Isn’t going to happen is it?

I actually hope not (very selfishly I know), as I work there but my MH is terrible at the moment and I’m really not feeling it and will be glad of a year off, even though I’ll lose a lot of money.

Seems like it would be the perfect place for the virus to spread, hundreds of thousands of people in very close contact and hygiene tends to go out of the window there.

Obviously applies to a lot of other festivals too, but glastonbury is the biggest.

It's months away, it's in a season where respiratory viruses spread less readily, it's one air

I wouidn't begin to be worrying about this (yet)

MayDayHelp · 07/03/2020 20:55

I realise it’s still 15 weeks away but I think they’ll have to make a decision quite soon, before the ticket balances become due in early April (at the moment punters have just paid the £50 deposit).

Apparently it’s likely to go ahead. The virus isn’t likely to spread any worse at a festival then it would in say a pub/restaurant, if one person is carrying it they won’t infect 1000’s of people (just a few who they are stood very close too or sharing a tent with). I think it would be stupid to cancel these big events, people just need to be sensible, if your not in the high risk category then you don’t have much to worry about.

vera99 · 07/03/2020 21:17

Crikey I'm a perennial veteran recycler there but I'm not going to worry about this just now.

Falcor40 · 07/03/2020 21:48

I think if the government start the 'delay phase' then it will be stopped.

Until then. Not sure. I doubt it will be stopped to be fair

What do you do there?

MayDayHelp · 07/03/2020 22:07

I run a bar...I’m sure if it goes ahead I will rally but at the moment I can’t think of anything worse...it’s all hard graft and zero fun for me and at the moment getting myself out of bed is a struggle.

A friend who works in the city for a large law firm seems to think the delay phase will be announced in the next few days, apparently the company have had a tip off about it and have therefore been getting all their IT systems prepared for employees to work remotely from home fairly imminently.

But surely then the few they are close to then catch it and spread it to the people they are close to and it does infect many more than you would in the local pub.

MayDayHelp · 07/03/2020 22:49

That’s what I thought too...ok one person may only infect a few people, but if those people then infect a few more each etc then the virus will spread exponentially.

Oh fuck off Its months away - how could you possibly know that!!
This drama is so crazy - stop being so doom & gloom!!!! These threads man 😩

Billyeyelash · 07/03/2020 23:25

For the last 2 months loads of companies have been looking at staff working at home and writing business continuity plans.... That's nothing new...
Sure I heard on the radio the warmer weather will help kill off the virus.

Not worrying about Glastonbury now.

MayDayHelp · 08/03/2020 00:18

Yes it’s 15 weeks away but do you think it just springs up overnight? The outer fence build starts in April, decisions will have to made soon.

And the hand washing facilities aren’t great - a lot of the toilets just have hand sanitiser (which is often empty), and the ones with sinks quite often don’t have soap, and the water is cold obviously.

And you can bet your bottom dollar that if you’ve done 3 Es, 8 cans of cider and a tab of acid you’re not going to be standing there singing happy birthday twice washing your hands each time you use the shitter.

It'll still go ahead , it's months away , and there will just be advice prior to it. Even in china they didn't really close down huge events , they just managed them with temperature checks etc

madcatladyforever · 08/03/2020 00:33

I live there so I hope you non locals aren't going to bring the plague with you.
There is a penalty for outlanders bringing unwanted things here

AutumnRose1 · 08/03/2020 01:01

I was wondering about this because I imagine it takes so long to prepare. Do people get deposits back?

Dhalandchips · 08/03/2020 01:14

I work at several festivals each year so interested to know if I'm going to have a quiet summer Confused

Itsmybirthdaytoday20 · 08/03/2020 02:02

I want to work there!

TimeForPlentyIn2020 · 08/03/2020 02:19

Are the govern meant really giving tip offs to some firms? Really?

DroppedBoxxedRuth · 08/03/2020 03:22

I wouldn't think it's the government, but friends working there @TimeForPlentyIn2020 Hmm

I think it should be cancelled as the pandemic stands now. I'm really surprised the UK isn't taking it more seriously.

Australia has banned flights from China and anyone who has been in China in the previous 2 weeks. But we have a lot of Chinese tourists and Chinese nationals living and studying here so drastic action had to be taken early.

CrowleysBentley · 08/03/2020 03:39

I wouldn't fancy going to a festival this year, and I bloody love a good festival. Thousands of people crammed into a field, lots of drinking so lower immunity there, combined with a weekend of lax to questionable personal hygiene, and either portaloos or the dreaded stinky long-drops, in the midst of an epidemic/pandemic, all sounds like a very bad idea to me.

Hehe I sense you have been there, done that, and got the t-shirt !

I have some festies planned this summer. I think they are at a slight risk actually. I think glasto will keep plodding on with the plans from April, saying that its still going ahead, and not make a decision until closer to June.
