Cyprus april

Cyprus at present has no recorded cases of Covid-19 We have booked to g in April
I am in Uk which currently has over 200 cases. I am in an at risk group plus I am over 70.I have spoken to the travel insurance company who say we are not covered here in this country but would be if we contracted it in Cyprus.
If they was willing to let me cancel and get my money back this would be my choice. The only way of getting a full refund is if the FO say we can't travel.
As it stands at present we could cancel within the next few day and lose 50% of the cost. If we did that it would take ages to save again on our pensions.
What would you do?

Watch the situation but as it is I would go. Chance of getting it here is higher. Would take high alcohol content handgel on flight and use it before food / drink and at seat after bathroom. Would also anti-bac wipe suitcases as there's been a couple of baggage handlers at Heathrow infected and they said can stay on luggage 3 days.

Seven8nine · 08/03/2020 09:09

Are you able to reschedule?

Davincitoad · 08/03/2020 09:29

The might not let YOU in never mind be allowed to travel. If places have no cases they are probably going to stop people from places that have coming into

Seven8nine · 08/03/2020 09:38

@Davincitoad That’s a good point

NotARealLady · 08/03/2020 09:49

We are booked for August. Its so worrying not knowing what to do. If we cancel now we lose £400 but any later and it will be the whole cost. So undecided.

Raindancer411 · 08/03/2020 10:14

FIL has a place over there and is 75 and flies out Thursday. He isn't too worried as there are no current cases out there.

Missmolly22 · 08/03/2020 11:01

Thanks everyone, If we cancel now we will lose 50% so 1700.:(
I have just spoken to Jet2 who said we can reschedule for £100, we have about two weeks in which to do that then it will be £150 to change before 5th April.
They advised to leave until last minute in case things change.

You made a good point that they may not let us in, not sure what would happen then.

I'ld reschedule then but vaccine won't be out until year end at the very earliest and some saying middle of next year. I'ld reschedule for as late as possible.

midnightstar66 · 08/03/2020 11:04

As things are I'd go. Cyprus are very diligent re public health and I think they'd contain any cases quickly. I assume if they refuse entry from affected countries insurance will cover that?! Take extra hygiene measures during travel

HairyFloppins · 08/03/2020 11:07

My parents have a place in north Cyprus and my sister lives there. There are no cases at the moment. My parents are flying out soon and they were going to come back in five weeks but I am going to advise them to stay most of the summer. I’d rather them there than here.

issybaker · 08/03/2020 12:53

Fuck it

midnightstar66 · 08/03/2020 14:01

Articulate and helpful @issybaker Wink

ifonly4 · 08/03/2020 14:06

We're meant to be going to one of the greek islands in April. There is no other window to change holiday dates to, so we're going to review things a few days before.

Bottleofcorona · 08/03/2020 14:10

There may be 200 cases now in the Uk but by April there could easily be 50,000 based on the rate of infection in Italy, particularly if the government don’t do anything to stop it.

Insurance companies would go bust if the advice was not to travel. The government won’t want that.

DeliciousTart · 09/03/2020 16:14

Two cases diagnosed in Cyprus today. Damn, not sure whether to cancel or not, we go late summer.

Missmolly22 · 09/03/2020 17:03

It really is a difficult decision DeliciousTart, We have decided to give it to the 24th of March and if cases continue to increase we will change the date to next April. We have another holiday booked in Cyprus for September and we will just have to wait and see what happens.
If we were young I would be more inclined to take my chances.

OP posts:
Seven8nine · 09/03/2020 17:33

@DeliciousTart I would hope by late summer it's all ok?

@Missmolly22 who are you flying with? We couldn't change our Ryanair flights to next April 2021 as the flight schedule for then hasn't been released.

Missmolly22 · 09/03/2020 17:37

Jet2, we booked the whole holiday with them.

@Missmolly22

Not sure if you've seen this but it looks like Cyprus is expecting UK arrivals to self isolate for 14 days after arrival.

cyprus-mail.com/2020/03/12/uk-placed-back-into-category-2-mandatory-self-isolation/

Have Jet2 been in touch? I'd expect you to be able to cancel.

Missmolly22 · 13/03/2020 12:21

Not sure how you ca self isolate for 14 days if you are on holiday for 12 all inclusive :(. We have however changed our holiday to April 2021. We have left the September one as it is and we will make a decision on that one later. Thanks for information

Poppydaisies · 13/03/2020 12:24

Cyprus would be crazy to let people from the UK (with an estimated 500,000 - 10,000 cases) into their country!!

Poppydaisies · 13/03/2020 12:25

Sorry 5000-10000 cases!

Seven8nine · 13/03/2020 12:36

That's good to hear @Missmolly22

Mummug · 13/03/2020 15:42

Jet2 has just cancelled flights to Cyprus
