Paracetamol quota on Ocado?

OfaFrenchmind2 · 07/03/2020 14:02

Hi all!

I was doing next week's shopping on Ocado, and after selecting 2 kinds of paracetamol packets, one of them is cancelled because 'I exceeded my limit'. Is that a shortage management situation, or a normal one?

Normal quota is two paracetamol containing products per customer

BritWifeinUSA · 07/03/2020 14:03

Paracetamol has been limited for many years now. It’s a health safety issue to try to prevent suicides, nothing to do with stock controls.

2beautifulbabs · 07/03/2020 14:06

Normal as pp have said its more to do with suicides than what's currently going on

DesLynamsMoustache · 07/03/2020 14:14

I buy our painkillers from an online pharmacy so I can stock up. There I can get 100 paracetamol-containing tablets at a time. But yes, buying in high street stores etc. you will be limited. If they wouldn't let you buy just two packs, though, they might be limiting them for stock reasons instead.

Thank you all! Good to know that restrictions are not hitting us so early. (and good on safe guarding regs too!)

How many packs were you allowed to buy?

Ferretyone · 07/03/2020 14:54

@OfaFrenchmind2

If you buy "self service" [in Boots or supermarket for example] you can buy 32 tablets [usually 2 packs]. If you want more you can go to the pharmacy with the tablets and if you look respectable and can convince the pharmacist you can get up to 96. Above that you need a prescription [or have to visit several chemists]

ValleyoftheHorses · 07/03/2020 14:56

Bizarrely home bargains won’t let you buy more than 2 of any painkillers even though they are different
Eg ibuprofen and paracetamol

OfaFrenchmind2 · 07/03/2020 14:57

Thank you @Ferretyone. I am trying not to panic and stockpile, so I would not go nuts on buying, but it is good to know my options.
Now, to look respectable...

Des. How does that work? Do yo have a likk please.

eeeyoresmiles · 07/03/2020 15:17

They are a bit funny about not letting you buy more than two different types as well - I once tried to put a single pack each of aspirin, paracetamol and ibuprofen in, and it wouldn't let me put the third one in. It was quite happy for me to have two packs each of two things, but not one pack each of three. I know there are good reasons for the rules but it's annoying when you're buying for different people who can't take the same thing!

PeterPanGoesWrong · 07/03/2020 15:19

You can buy 32 maximum at anyone shop. The law on that changed about 20 years ago.

DesLynamsMoustache · 07/03/2020 15:52

@missnevermind Weldricks Pharmacy/The Independent Pharmacy/Chemist4U/Lloyd's Online. There are loads of them.

Geoffreythecat · 07/03/2020 15:56

Pharmacists will usually sell more than the usual 32. Dh picks up packs of 96 from our local Boots.
