Should I call 111?

DS came back from Rome on Feb 13th.

Few days later he was poorly for a few days. Just off and in bed. Nothing worrying.

I wasn't really aware of corona at the time, symptoms or anything.

He's now got a persistent cough.

I've woke up this morning with headache, sore throat, burning ears.

Should I call 111?

DH thinks I'm being stupid and dramatic to call.

I think you should ring but I would check what it says on the website first.

Sugarmirror · 07/03/2020 12:05

Look at the advice. I don’t believe Rome was a problem zone at that time

111.nhs.uk/Question/Navigation

Sugarmirror · 07/03/2020 12:06

And don’t ring if advice says not to - they can’t cope with the amount of people ringing on the off chance

Kneehighinshit · 07/03/2020 12:06

If you feel that your child needs medical help then sort it by ringing 111.

Don't allow your 'D'H down play or minimise your child being ill. Doesn't matter if it's Coronavirus or a common cold, don't let them have the power for you to doubt yourself

Littlebelina · 07/03/2020 12:06

111 have an online survey to fill in to tell you if you should call for Corona 111.nhs.uk/covid-19

Jumpingintotheabyss · 07/03/2020 12:10

I'd call yes.

It seems people from Italy, visitors etc are spreading it all over.

ShouldIcall · 07/03/2020 12:10

He's fine now. He was poorly for a few days after coming home. I figured jet lag, his first flight etc...

He's OK now. Just got this cough.

Should I call 111?

Then yes you need to call. Unless you have any underlining health conditions you will most probably be fine but the gov needs accurate data on what’s happening to respond effectively.

ShouldIcall · 07/03/2020 12:36

I called and was put through to public health who said he's been back more than 14 days so it's definitely not the corona virus Confused how can they tell??

He's had the cough for at least a week.

She basically said that and put the phone down

This is why I think the reported number of corona virus is much higher than it actually is.

Lipz · 07/03/2020 18:23

I don't mean to scare you but I'd look into this more. We've just had a case confirmed today of someone who visited Italy the last week of feb. I'm not sure of their details as I don't know them. Who ever took your call was very rude. Here they have set up car ambulances to come to your home to test anyone who visited Italy and the other countries listed, and is showing signs. On a side note 2 girls in my dds year are in isolation awaiting results having been skiing the last week in February in Italy. They went into isolation Thursday.

Lipz · 07/03/2020 18:27

Sorry should have said it was the second last week of February. They came back on the 21st/22nd. It's still over the 14 days like your son.

Awkward1 · 07/03/2020 18:49

There is an app symptom checker for Wales maybe a uk one too?

The this contact tracing is a cock up.
Clearly wasn't working in Italy or Iran or a korea.

I think we could us an it system put in where you've been. Or they could use our phones.
To trace anyone in an area where confirmed case.
I think it's also possible it's at airports and planes.
Consider what happens on cruise ships.

My dd has a temp last sat/Sun
So the week after half term....
She was at nursery. Who is to say if one of the kids went?
Or she has been to 3 different swimming poold . Possibly soft plays.
No way to know. She had a fever for about 4 days. Was sick on Monday morning. Snot green maybe wed.
She wasn't in all week. Sent her Fri though as seemed better. She doesn't really have a cough ...yet

It's been 2 w since end of half term. I think incubation is 1-14 days.

Awkward1 · 07/03/2020 18:51

Yes I would get everyone whose been abroad this month.
Use their passport data.
To text them to input and confirm if they have had
-fever
-cough
Etc

Peasfox · 07/03/2020 18:53

You’ve done all you can do, maybe just try and keep him away from the at risk categories

ShouldIcall · 08/03/2020 08:09

Should I still send him to school?

I have 4 kids. If they're infected too that's a hell of a spread.

I would call again if I were you op. He travelled from Italy and has a cough.

And yy to what pp said about figures being higher than they actually are.
