What actually happens if you set off the heat scanner at the airport?

I'm flying later today and have woken up with a bit of a cold Sad

I'm guessing that they'd quarantine you and you'd be detained for further testing.

bitheby · 06/03/2020 23:52

Unlikely that you have a fever if it's just a bit of a cold. Can you check your temp? Have you got a thermometer.

turnandfacethenamechange · 07/03/2020 00:01

No, I don't have anything much and leaving for the airport in one hour Sad

I feel a bit shivery and then hot but is 31 degrees outside so it may just be that!

Sorry if this is a totally stupid question but does anyone know where do you go when you're quarantined Confused and do you have to pay for it

OP posts:
IllustriousToad · 07/03/2020 00:09

It depends.... where are you flying from/to?

BlueBirdGreenFence · 07/03/2020 00:11

Take some paracetamol to bring your temp down.

turnandfacethenamechange · 07/03/2020 00:30

Bali > Perth. Had some paracetamol 👍🏻 Will start an AMA if I get slapped in irons 😂

LeGrandBleu · 07/03/2020 00:37

So you have a fever, suspect covid-19, take a paracetamol to trick heat scanner... what about the people, elderly or with health conditions, you are putting at a mortal risk. At least don't make jokes about it.

ZombieFan · 07/03/2020 00:39

you need to stay at home. how can you consider anything else. wtf

turnandfacethenamechange · 07/03/2020 00:41

All I have is a bit of a sore throat and feel a bit hot Confused I can't stay home, home is 12,000 km away!

OP posts:
DressingGownofDoom · 07/03/2020 00:42

I take it you don't know if any potential sources of infection. I'd say I'd see if you get can someone to bring you a thermometer but you've already taken paracetamol so Confused

turnandfacethenamechange · 07/03/2020 00:43

I don't "suspect covid-19" Hmm I suspect I have a cold. I always get a bit shivery with a cold.

OP posts:
LeGrandBleu · 07/03/2020 00:46

Maybe you should embrace your name and "turn and face the " fact that you might have coronavirus, knew before going to Bali that there was a high risk of you catching it and assume the consequence before flying 12.000 km in a flight and infecting those sitting next to you.

Are you only annoyed at the possible cost of quarantine?

LeGrandBleu · 07/03/2020 00:48

If you don't suspect covid-19, why are you posting in the coronavirus section?

turnandfacethenamechange · 07/03/2020 00:48

When I first came over it looked like there were no cases in Indonesia, I just looked and now looks like 4.

Sorry to be clear I do NOT think I have it. I just know I get a slight temp whenever I get snotty. I only put it in the CV topic because (I assume) that's what all the heat scanners are about.

OP posts:
ZombieFan · 07/03/2020 00:49

How many people might you infect, how many people might you kill?

LeGrandBleu · 07/03/2020 00:50

Everybody and their dog knew the numbers in Indonesia were not real. Every single newspaper was writing about how impossible it was for Indonesia to have zero cases.

turnandfacethenamechange · 07/03/2020 00:50

knew before going to Bali that there was a high risk of you catching it

There were more cases reported in London than in Indonesia Confused I thought the official advice was to just carry on as normal but wash hands a lot?

Well, I didn't.

LeGrandBleu · 07/03/2020 00:56

This is an article from a month ago www.theguardian.com/global-development/2020/feb/07/concerns-coronavirus-is-going-undetected-in-indonesia
and like this one, many alerts have been raised.

So you can't come here and say " I didn't know"

Torvean · 07/03/2020 00:57

When i flew home within Uk just after Christmas this man in his early 60s collapsed on the plane. Apparently him, his wife and ternage child had been having vommiting and diarrhoea including the day of the flight.

Their reason for going shead was nothing to do with being unable to afford new ones. They were selfish. They risked infecting anyone on that plane.

SD1978 · 07/03/2020 01:10

From Bali you should be self isolating- it's another country on the list. Depending they may not let you board the flight- recent Bali flight had confirmed covid-19. It sucks but identify at the airport. Don't be that person that gets a plane load quarantined.

turnandfacethenamechange · 07/03/2020 03:07

So you can't come here and say " I didn't know"

I didn't 🤷🏼‍♀️ The paracetamol was when I woke up and was actually for something else and will have worn off long before I get there so I'm not actually trying to "cheat" anything.

I don't see how I could self isolate when I'd already checked out of the hotel. As for not going in the first place, would people seriously have cancelled months of travel plans based on their possibly getting sick? There's still risk getting on the filthy tube every day.

Anyway I think the sore throat might have just been from the air-conditioning so hopefully is all fine.

Just checked and google says that Bali to Perth is a distance of approx 2580km not 12000km.

Anyway, I’ve been wondering the same as you op. I have no travel on the horizon but would be worried about being that one person flagging up the temp scanner and being stranded somewhere.

LeGrandBleu · 07/03/2020 03:25

funny how you mention the " the filthy tube" . there is no tube in Perth, nor is Perth at 12.000 km of Bali. You are going back to London.
