Am I....????

I think people only worry about not dying if they think it is not realistic imminent. So I did not worry about a test I had for cancer as I did not think realistically I had it. If I had thought it was a real possibility of course I would be worried.
It is the kind of thing my parents would have said. Oh we are not worried, why worry about something you can't control. Until they actually believed that something was going to kill them.
I think it is intellectually dishonest.

woodchuck99 · 08/03/2020 19:39

seriously no one has said they are fine with dying just that there’s no point worrying over something you have little control over.

You do have a certain amount of control over whether you get an infection. I make decisions all the time on whether something is worth risking getting an infection e.g. whether to avoid public transport, whether to go to a crowded place.

bellinisurge · 08/03/2020 19:46

You do have a bit of control. I mean, you are doing the hand washing thing, presumably. Or is that too paranoid?

Thefaceofboe · 08/03/2020 19:49

Right but as I’m still going to go about my life as normal, apart from hand washing more regularly there isn’t a lot I can do.

alloutoffucks · 08/03/2020 19:50

I am at high risk. I will avoid large public gatherings and avoid using public transport.

Maduixa · 08/03/2020 19:51

You are incredibly special to be so unruffled, unlike all the other girls!! Star Flowers Cake Wine Gin Halo

Thefaceofboe · 08/03/2020 19:52

@alloutoffucks and because you are at high risk, I agree that’s completely the right thing to do.

OP posts:
Thefaceofboe · 08/03/2020 19:53

@maduixa why is gender relevant?

There is. You may decide that it isn't worth it you but it's not true that the risk can't be reduced.

Thefaceofboe · 08/03/2020 19:59

What else can I do to prevent it that won’t affect my life? Genuinely curious

OP posts:
Alsohuman · 08/03/2020 20:09

And I think you’re bloody rude and lacking in imagination. I’m really going to blow your mind now. I stand a very high chance of getting dementia so if I were to get a cancer diagnosis, I’ll refuse treatment. Because getting dementia is far worse than death as far as I’m concerned.

The arrogance of deciding someone is dishonest because they don’t think like you is quite breath taking.

I didn't say that measures to reduce the risk wouldn't affect your life all that you should take any extra measures is entirely up to you (at the moment anyway). I'm just making the point that it isn't true that there's nothing you can do to reduce the risk.

Thefaceofboe · 08/03/2020 20:11

Fair enough. If there are confirmed cases near me or I come into contact with someone who may have the virus then yes I would take extra precautions.

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 08/03/2020 20:12

"that won't affect my life". That's the problem, though, isn't it. People think they can breeze through this with no impact on their life.

alloutoffucks · 08/03/2020 20:13

@Alsohuman No not accepting treatment for cancer makes perfect sense in some circumstances.

Thefaceofboe · 08/03/2020 20:15

@bellinisurge stop poking holes in every thing I say. It’s boring. I have enough on in my life so I’m not avoiding public transport etc as that would be another problem in itself.

Who put 50p in you

Cockola · 08/03/2020 20:16

I think people who aren’t worried either don’t have a basic grip on maths and viral spread or they’re happy to wallow in their own ignorance.

“Panic” is running around hysterical screaming PLAGUE PLAGUE PLAGUE. Making sure you have enough food and supplies to last a few weeks is fucking sensible.

bellinisurge · 08/03/2020 20:21

Ok, it'll be fiiiiiiiiine. Is that better?

Thefaceofboe · 08/03/2020 20:23

Better than judging other people’s choices, yes

OP posts:
bellinisurge · 08/03/2020 20:45

Good job you aren't judging people.

Geneva1994 · 08/03/2020 20:59

Sorry couldn’t resist

alloutoffucks · 09/03/2020 00:29

See you in a few months time OP when it will be having an impact in Britain. No it will not be the apocalypse, but it also will not be seen as something to dismiss and laugh about.

CatherineOfAragonsPomegranate · 09/03/2020 06:54

Excellent @Geneva1994

Yes. I wonder how many people will be "not worried" in a months time.
