DH work being wankers

hidinginthenightgarden · 04/03/2020 19:03

DH's workplace have always been shitty employers. When we had our youngest they basically told him that if he took shared parental leave, he would probably find himself redundant.
They don't employ young girls that might get pregnant.
They threatened him when he was off work with anxiety so he went back.
They have sent round an email saying that if anyone has to be quarentined due to COVID-19, they will have to take the time as leave. If they choose to come in and infect people, thats fine. IF they try to report the company to the government when caught spreading the virus, they will have legal action against them.
WTF?? They are utter dicks! DH could easily work from home but they don't like it so won't action that.

If they're put that in writing they need to be very careful, any employee could print it off and report them anonymously How would they know whoit was?

YappityYapYap · 04/03/2020 19:09

We've just heard of the first case of it here in Aberdeen, well it's in Aberdeenshire. None of us (in this house or at work) are vulnerable thank god but we've been told that if we need to stay off work to self isolate, we will be paid SSP for the full 2 weeks rather than just for anything after the first 4 days?

HappyHammy · 04/03/2020 19:10

Keep the emails. Send hard copies to Public Health England and tell him to find a better job.

HappyHammy · 04/03/2020 19:11

The Govt have announced SSP will be paid from the first day off.

bellinisurge · 04/03/2020 19:13

It's amazing what work emails might end up anonymously online.
I'd find a way of showing them up that didn't get back to me. Even posting it anonymously as a hard copy to the local paper.
I want momentum (pardon expression-I hate those bastards) to build to make it socially unacceptable/business suicide for any company to punish self isolation. Even if it means the government doling out cash.
Sure it might be abused. Better that than failing the community.

PointlessAddict · 04/03/2020 19:13

Haha they must have deep pockets to pay the claims for detriment due to whistleblowing. Dicks indeed.

bellinisurge · 04/03/2020 19:13

Tell your MP.

hidinginthenightgarden · 04/03/2020 19:14

Happyhammy, thats only £20 a day! If we had to isolate for 2 weeks we would lose over £1000! SSP isn't going to stop people going to work if they have ills to pay.

I know its not much but its 4 days extra than usual. Going to work if youre in a risk group is really selfish. Maybe some people will take a.l. if they can.

Maybe83 · 04/03/2020 19:21

Well that's life to be honest I would rather deal with the fall out of getting behind some bills or mortgage. All which is fixable rather than risk infecting my children or extended family.

I wont put in writing what I think of some who would still go to work after being told to self isolate. It would probably get me banned.

TARSCOUT · 04/03/2020 19:21

Seriously, if this has been put in writing you must report to hse - or even better the DM!!

Mummyoflittledragon · 04/03/2020 19:30

The company sounds horrible. Printing off the email and forwarding it to his mp sounds like a very good idea.

AutumnRose1 · 04/03/2020 19:33

I would anonymously report to PHE. Or drop note at local MP.

I find it bizarre that companies who can enable home working do t do it under normal circumstances, but now....they are just being assholes.

RifRafia · 04/03/2020 19:33

I would strongly encourage your DH to make an anonymous whistleblowing complaint

hidinginthenightgarden · 04/03/2020 19:38

If we actually have to quarentine then he might make a compliant but they are so ruthless that he is worried he will get sacked before he gets another job.

WTF??

So how do they propose to take legal action when they’ve written this in black and white in an email..?

Not a smart move really

Nanna50 · 05/03/2020 06:00

Is anything in writing?
How long has he put up with this shit?
When is he leaving?

VivaLeBeaver · 05/03/2020 06:32

Guess if you have to self quarentine then just don’t tell them. Say he’s ill and self certify for the first week. See if you ring the gp for a doctors note after that.....they can be very vague on the reason.....unable to work for medical reasons, something like that.

Shiraznowplease · 05/03/2020 06:41

I was going to say print off and send to local/national media. As to SSP, ITS £94 a week meaning that I would lose over a thousand pounds. If I am ill I will self isolate but if I am only a contact I won’t. This may sound selfish but I can’t afford to take the pay hit on the off chance and I can’t work from home. Am sure lots of people feel this way

BelfastNonBlonde · 05/03/2020 06:42

Seriously would he not think about looking for another job?
Life’s too short to work in a place and for assholes like that..

PointlessAddict · 05/03/2020 10:52

I agree Shiraz. I get paid full sick pay and I can wfh anyway so not going to be an issue but it’s going to take a lot to expect people to take that kind of hit in self isolating. For one thing it could potentially happen multiple times and you might not have the virus anyway . I wouldn’t be self isolating unless I was ill to get less money in a week than I take home in a day, I jut couldn’t afford to pay my bills.

inwood · 05/03/2020 10:53

Do they have a whistleblowing policy?

Rebmethewrongway · 05/03/2020 10:54

i think you need to report this
