Should DH self-isolate?

DH is in Cologne on business. Person in his meeting today visibly sweating and coughing. He's on his way back now, should he be self-isolating when he gets back?

There's no advice from foreign office or NHS about this, even though western area of Germany seems to be a bit of a hotbed. We are both tube commuters too so would be concerned about potentially passing on. Worried! Sad

Yes

Uptheshard · 04/03/2020 19:05

Get him to call 111 as soon as he gets back. I got back from Italy 2 weeks ago and did this. Theyll give you latest advice.

ScouseMar · 04/03/2020 19:09

Why are you asking random people on the Internet?

Your husband needs to call 111 on his return and get proper medical advice.

Random18 · 04/03/2020 19:10

If hes going to self isolate should he ot do it before he travels?

Sunshine1239 · 04/03/2020 19:11

No he doesn’t need to

Kirkman · 04/03/2020 19:12

If he thinks this person has corona, genuinely thinks that, he should be travelling back.

Kirkman · 04/03/2020 19:14

What reason doesn he think this man has corona rather flu or a cold?

LouLouLoo · 04/03/2020 19:15

Did nobody raise it with the person sweating & coughing. Corona or not, the selfish person shouldn't have been at the meeting.

I'm surprised people sat in the same room as him.

pastaislife · 04/03/2020 19:15

@ScouseMar urm, asking because there is currently no NHS advice for that area, so wanted to get opinions? Wasn't sure if I was being overdramatic.

Will get him to call 111 when he gets back.

No, he doesn’t need to self isolate.

Kirkman · 04/03/2020 19:16

Then no, he doesnt need to self isolate. The reason there is no advice is that it's not a risk area.

He cant genuinely think its corona, he would have got the flight back.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 04/03/2020 19:19

Call 111, there are a couple of hundred cases in Germany. MN can't tell you whether to self isolate or not

Deelish75 · 04/03/2020 19:47

Unless the other person has tested positive I don’t think your dh needs to but in his situation I probably would.

Bloody selfish of the man to spread whatever germs he is carrying.

Kirkman · 04/03/2020 19:48

Bloody selfish of the man to spread whatever germs he is carrying.

Yes. But so is the dh. Since he is currently travelling back whilst believing he has been in prolonged contact with someone who has it.

pastaislife · 04/03/2020 19:57

@kirkman As you said above, there's not really any reason to think it's coronavirus other than flu or cold. So he isn't being selfish by travelling back. Just wanted to get opinions on if he/we should take precautions.

*rather than flu/cold

If he is seriously thinking about self isolating, he must seriously be thinking it corona.

Lynda07 · 04/03/2020 19:59

No he doesn't need to self isolate, there's no reason to suppose his coughing colleague had the Cvirus.

Hippopotas · 04/03/2020 20:00

I don’t think so.

I have a fever and cough. It’s not corona as it’s also a very sore throat, sinus pain and dribble nose.

Random18 · 04/03/2020 20:08

pasta why would he even consider self isolatimg if it's not Corona Virus.

This post makes absolutely no sense whatsoever!

Acrasia · 04/03/2020 20:22

I would ring 111 and also perhaps contact his work to see what they suggest.

It is unlikely, however, you certainly shouldn’t dismiss it. After all, at least one of the danish cases, and some german ones, tested positive after attending a conference in Munich. The outbreak was traced to an Italian attendee who was described to be in much the same state as the guy your husband was with. Don’t panic, but do seek advice.
