Corona virus advice please...

My son spent the day today with a group of friends. It turns out that the father of two of them has just tested positive for the corona virus. The advice seems to be that because it’s “once removed” there’s no need to take any action- but I’m not so sure. The two are getting tested tomorrow, and my feeling is that we should isolate until they get the results. What

You need to contact 111 and ask for advice. I expect they’ll tell you that since they had no direct contact, there is no need to self isolate unless they develop symptoms.

Where would it stop? Would you have to isolate because you’ve been in contact with your son who was in contact with his friend who was in contact with his father?

What is the test they use for this ? Its all v confusing at the mo advice wise

Marshmello · 02/03/2020 00:04

It's not once removed really - the two kids have definitely been closely exposed on a daily basis to the father, who definitely has it. Call 111 and yes you should self-isolate.

PurpleDaisies · 02/03/2020 00:05

Of course it is “once removed” marsh. The op didn’t meet the father who has the virus.

The nhs is advising people to call 111 or speak to your GP if you need advice about the coronavirus. They'll quite possibly say it's best to isolate as it's very likely those children will have it now too. Definitely best to speak to 111 than risk it spreading, and to help your own peace of mind as to what to do. Hopefully your son and rest of your family will be fine Smile x

Personally I wouldn't hesitate to self isolate OP, as not doing so until you find out more at least, is the right thing to do. Call 111 if unsure but yes, I would self isolate until the results and contribute to trying to keep this contained in any way possible.

Where in the UK are you (roughly)? Is this an already reported case? Hoping for the boys (and yourself) that it comes to nothing and their dad recovers well.

BertrandRussell · 02/03/2020 07:15

Thank you. It is once removed-twice removed from me really. But the two people involved spent the last few days with their dad- and my ds spent the whole day yesterday with them and will have been touching and cuddling. So if they have it- which seems likely, then ds probably has too. We’re going to stay home until we know more. Please send wine!

Wine

Do you know when they will receive their results?

CarolineMumsnet · 02/03/2020 11:58

Hi OP

Thanks for getting in touch about moving this thread. We are going to send it over to the new corona virus topic shortly.

In the meantime, here is some Wine from us.

Good luck op,

Fwiw, I'd isolate in their position. I think that's what's needed to halt the spread.
There'll be a lot of cases stemming from the people that'll not isolate properly or too late.

NotJustACigar · 02/03/2020 12:20

I'd isolate on the basis that it's better to be safe than sorry. This virus seems to be more contagious than most.
