No mumsnetters got the coronavirus?

Fingers crossed we all stay safe but the odds are shortening..

I think an “I have the coronavirus AMA” would be handy!

We are still seeing the woman from Venice at reception. She regularly goes out with her daughter who is on one of our wards. I must emphasise there is no proof she has the virus but comes from an area in Italy that does!

If she does, she could possibly have infected a lot of people!

She is aware of the coronovirus because her daughter and her were talking about it but do not seem concerned....

HavelockVetinari · 02/03/2020 13:54

I'm wondering if I've got it - I've not travelled, but have been in contact with a lot of folk recently come from China, and have had the high temp followed by dry cough which is now moving onto breathlessness. 111 said unless I know for sure that one of the people I met has tested positive then I should carry on as usual, so I am doing. I bloody hope it's not coronavirus though, I'll have infected a LOT of people if it is...

ThePerfect1IThinkNot · 02/03/2020 13:54

I have tried to get myself tested but they won’t let me. My husband flew from Gatwick for a weekend in Edinburgh a week ago and had mild symptoms for a few days after getting back. I got the symptoms on Friday and rang 111 today but they won’t test me because I don’t have a direct connection.

I’m worried because I interact with a lot of elderly people including my 89 year old mum.

BlackCatSleeping · 02/03/2020 13:55

I'm totally convinced I had it in December. I had a high fever, chills, bad cough, could barely speak, but when I went to the doctor for flu testing, it came up negative.

Cosmos45 · 02/03/2020 13:56

I know of someone who visited a European country in January and was hospitalised for an illness which came on very rapidly and very severely. She had an extremely sore throat (of which she has never had before) and chronic respiratory issues (again not asthmatic or anything). She was not diagnosed with a chest infection and was put onto steroids, there wasn't any normal "cold" symptons either. I can't help but ponder if this was in fact coronavirus judging by the sympton list and the chronic difficulty she had in breathing etc. I'm probably talking nonsense but it does seem a bit strange..

cottonwoolbrain · 02/03/2020 14:36

Just had an email from DD's school -another pupil traveled to one of the infected areas over half term and is now at home awaiting test results having developed symptoms.

Now of course worrying about DD and also DS (7) who though not at the same school is prone to chest infections having had a really nasty case of bhroncholitis when he was little :(

Still hopefully the test will be negative

starflake · 02/03/2020 15:16

@BlackCatSleeping funnily enough I'm convinced I had it in December also. I was in hospital having my DD and right before labour my temp rose, after I gave birth I got a really nasty chesty cough that didn't shake for about 2 weeks but for the first 3/4 days my god, it was dreadful, every doctor thought I was a heavy smoker! I felt my lungs were drowning

HavelockVetinari · 02/03/2020 15:51

@starflake that doesn't sound like coronavirus, the cough with that is typically dry.

squishedgrapes · 02/03/2020 16:58

I know someone who has just returned from North Italy, near the area on lockdown, at one part of her trip she could see the hotel which was in lock down. She has not self isolated. So I'm worried

GiveEmHellKid · 02/03/2020 17:11

It’s confirmed in my area, and my husband has a connection to a confirmed case. I’ve been in contact with somebody who has travelled to south east Asia recently and had symptoms (but not a confirmed case). I have the symptoms at the moment and although I doubt it’s actually Coronavirus, I’ve called 111 just in case. They said that unless I’ve been abroad myself or had contact with a confirmed case, then I don’t need to self isolate. But more cases (and suspected cases) are popping up around here- what if I’ve been in contact with someone who didn’t realise they had it?

I know it’s unlikely and I’m certain I just have a standard illness, but the response did surprise me.

Allmyfavouritepeople · 02/03/2020 17:18

Honestly I think there's loads of people who potentially have it. I've got all the symptoms except a fever. (because they are the same symptoms as a cold) Just started to feel flu-style achey in the past hour. I've not knowingly been in direct contact but I travel by public transport and work in further education with over 4000 other people so who's to say I haven't been sneezed on by someone infected?

Alsohuman · 02/03/2020 17:20

I felt my lungs were drowning

Apparently that’s exactly what cv feels like so you definitely could have had it.

Livingoffcoffee · 02/03/2020 17:24

@Deathraystare Has she recently traveled from Venice? Just being Italian doesn't make her at risk...

MogHog · 02/03/2020 17:24

No but something this week has really made me think.
A family member of mine works in home shopping. A colleague delivered to a customer, handed over items to the couple who chatted away with him merrily..then informed him that they had been tested for the virus and were in self isolation.

Driver was obviously not right impressed and told management when he got back who advised 111. Was told differing advice from 2 call handlers...1 was he should self isolate, the other was that he needed to of been in prolonged contact for 15+ minutes.

Just hope other who are self isolating have the common sense to not put others at risk like that

JoMumsnet · 02/03/2020 17:37

Hi all. We have a new Coronavirus topic (as requested by many Mumsnetters) and are moving threads over as and when we see them.

We're moving this one over now.

dwum · 02/03/2020 18:19

I don't know anyone who has it but there are cases in my (small) town and we have been told that schools will probably close. Another friend in a different district has reported that a school mum from their school has it.
We are not UK based, but in Europe.

LeggyLinda · 02/03/2020 18:36

I don’t think it’s that surprising that no mumsnetters have got it ... yet.
It is still (apparently) very rare in the UK. The fact that the number of active cases has gone down in the UK over the weekend makes me optimistically believe that we have hit the peak. But who knows? Can we continue to keep it under control?

The “drowning lungs” symptom strikes a chord with me - I’ve had that for a couple of weeks and thought nothing of it other than I’d been sleeping funny or something.

I’m not generally into scaremongering, but I suspect many more people have got / had it than we will ever know and most people have disregarded the symptoms as they are mild and unnoticeable for the majority.

m0therofdragons · 02/03/2020 18:47

I'm wondering if I had it mid January. My colleagues daughter returned from an international ski event with flu/cough/wheeze and then colleague got it followed by me. We're usually health and have both had our flu jabs. It could have been a different strain of flu but it was definitely respiratory focused and for 5 days I barely lifted my head off the pillow. Dh didn't ask me to help with anything (which is rare when I'm ill due to having 3dc). After he said even scratching an itch on my face looked like a huge effort for me and he'd been worried.

I honestly think most people would just assume it's flu. Having not been swabbed as it was pre news coverage, I'll never know.

m0therofdragons · 02/03/2020 18:49

Apologies for typos and missing apostrophes. Very tired 💤

notanurse2017 · 02/03/2020 18:53

I also thought that I might have had it in December. Horrendous cough, cold, lungs felt so full that I couldn't breathe properly for days. I came close to calling an ambulance (cue Mumsnet imploding).

Todayissunny · 02/03/2020 18:57

Im wondering.... Unless they start testing more people with similar symptoms who are not directly connected to a case it will be likely to spread quickly and numbers of cases reported won't be accurate. OR are there very specific symptoms that really make this identifiable from other viruses?

BunsyGirl · 02/03/2020 18:57

I have been been ill for 10 days now. I have no idea whether it’s Coronavirus but, whatever it is, I feel dreadful. Started with a high temp and stomach pains, progressed to really sore throat - I have white spots at the back of my throat - and my asthma has deteriorated in the last 3-4 days.

MitziK · 02/03/2020 19:07

It would surprise me more if I don't get it.

Schools are full of obviously ill kids year round. Sometimes, it's a genuine problem to get time off/get back to pick up. But equally, a lot of conversations seem to be with people who think it's A Woman's Job to look after their sick child and their sick child alone for the next six hours before chucking them out the door to make their own way home.

okiedokieme · 02/03/2020 19:12

I had a dry cough and mild fever and sore throat, nothing you would bother a dr about following flying through the Middle East (not to a country infected then) lots of Chinese people on the leg outbound from London. I do wonder if I got a mild case, dp had it too, again mild though took a day off work

Thefaceofboe · 02/03/2020 19:35

Those with temperatures and a cough, I don’t see why you’d thinking it was coronavirus specifically. I’ve had a fever and a dry cough loads over the past year or so but it’s just a bad cold. It’s common
