Self isolation advice

So my mum is coming over from Malaysia on Wednesday and current advise is that she should self isolate. She's staying with us though so does that also mean we have to self isolate?

The risk of coronavirus is so remote! Especially as she's from a small town in the middle of nowhere..

I'd ask your doctor for advice, not MN

But will presumably be travelling from and to airports where people will be coming from all over. And be confined in a metal tube for several hours with several others from other places with the air con circulating every bug evenly throughout....

I'd ring 111 for advice.

You already sound dismissive of it.

How do you know all the people she is travelling with and coming into contact with on the journey?

How would you feel if you passed it on to someone and they died?

I'd call 111 or your GP for advice on how to go about it and who should be isolated.

111 has said no need to self isolate unless showing symptoms..

Which sounds weird as it takes 2 weeks for symptoms to develop!

a friend of ours has a family member who just came back from Asia, and she stayed in a hotel room for 7 days before going back home to her family. I think that's the sensible thing to do as a precaution because you can be infectious before symptoms appear!

Given that the perosn who came from Singapore (ie Malaysia) has infected a load of others, I think you need to have a think about her. Wearing a mask is useless, it does not stop her getting it, or passing it on ( as per the midday news on BBC radio 4)
The current advice for China is below, not sure exactly how it is different for different areas

Public Health England and the Foreign Office have issued advice for anyone travelling to the area. This can be found at:
