The government need to act on this. West Midlands police have more than enough man power to police a football match with at most 1000 away fans. I watched West Midlands politics today and there was a politician brazenly saying part of the reason for effectively banning the Tel Aviv fans was they there was 'a moral point about Gaza'. We cannot have local councillors, community leaders and MPs agitating for the anti Semitic ban of fans of one of Israel's premier football teams.

We have to face reality want know that a lot of local residents are anti Israel and have taken this opportunity for VIlla Park to become a no go area for Jews.

Let's hope the decision is overturned and quickly.

Parts of Birmingham 'can't be a no-go area for Jews', says Ed Miliband

The Energy Secretary said Britain 'cannot have a situation where any area is a no-go area for people of a particular religion or from a particular country'.

Their nationality and religion is irrelevant.

'Irrelevant' Confused

I bet they all told themselves that in 1930s Germany too.

But it never was a purely policing decision was it? The decision by WM Police to ban Israeli fans was on the advice of the Birmingham Safety Advisory Group (SAG).

I believe that the WM police have the final say in such decisions, after taking advice?

Oh here we go. How dare you make those sort of accusations over something as petty as a banning order for, at most, 5000 football fans?

How dare you use the plight and suffering of 6 million people to try and points score? Utterly disgusting.

They have not banned Jews, nor Israelis. Jews and Israelis are free to purchase tickets to the game in the home end (so long as they are not wearing opposition colours - a typical condition of a football ticket). MTA fans are not allowed at the game. It’s that simple.

According to reports it was the other team, Hapoel, who threw smoke grenades and flares

That would seem logical as the smoke is red and white - Hapoel team colours.

Well it’s also untrue based on what the Israeli police actually said. But it fits the agenda so let’s go with that.

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/10/2025 13:36

That is scraping the barrel, @Gloriia. you’re better than that.

It is a safety decision for all concerned. Nothing more, nothing less.

what Is it that you want to happen? Do you want them allowed because they are Jewish Israelis irrespective of what they have done?
You have been told so many times that blanket fan bans based on the behaviour of some supporters is normal.
I can’t understand the point you are making, is it that they should be welcome purely because of their religion? Or are you saying the ban is because of their religion and none of them cause a safety risk?

It seems that quite a few posters not only want this trouble to kick off, but would actually quite enjoy it.

MrsSkylerWhite · 20/10/2025 13:21

I expect it did. As I’ve said several times, the WM police would have looked at all of the evidence before making its decision.

As Iv’e also said, any local residents, Muslim or otherwise out looking for trouble and behaving violently had the match gone ahead should be arrested.

From what I’ve seen of the violence in Amsterdam, I’d ban both groups of supporters from travelling anywhere.
A much stronger stance against any such behaviour, by any group of “fans” (I use that term loosely), is the only way to rid football of violence.

Of course, management will be reluctant to lose revenue.

That does seem to confirm that you support the ban on the ground that Israelis coming to the game - in their team’s shirts, with team scarves, flags etc - would provoke violence from people who oppose Israel.

Leaving aside the doubtful motives of anti-Israel campaigners and activists, that basis for a ban on football supporters is at the very least sad and regrettable. More importantly it’s a disgrace that Israeli citizens should be treated like that merely for being Israeli.

BTW, the Maccabi fans weren’t attacked in Amsterdam by Ajax fans. They were attacked by violent people opposed to Israel.

No one wants any trouble and to say anyone would enjoy it is a bit sick tbh.

The problem is the petition people and the police didn't get their stories straight about the banning so it looks like there is an anti semitic agenda under the guise of a safety concern.

I've no idea if some are being naive or what but in the current climate with the conflict in gaza and the rise of anti Jewish hate in this country this is absolutely about more than football thugs. It is what it represents.

So again, cancel all fans or allow all and police it.

TigTails · 20/10/2025 13:48

Is these fans were anything other than Israeli this wouldn’t even be a debate.

For those who think it was one sided. The police didn’t.

You really should think about googling before spouting utter rubbish. Plenty others have been banned. It is just nobody objected to polish hooligans being banned.

UEFA banned Warsaw from other European fixtures and reduced the ticket allocation for the game in England. The ban only happened because of violence by Warsaw fans on the day, not before. If Maccabi turn up (UEFA want them to be able to) and there’s disorder caused by them, like the Polish fans, then, sure, crack down.

But that’s not how it is.

Very happy to admit when I’ve been a bit of a tit 😁

Shame everyone who feels sorry for the "poor Macabee fans that just want to watch football in peace" aren't as quick to do so

why do you think Liverpool fans were banned in the 90s?
why do you think away fans are banned at Glaswegian old firm derbys?
are they all Jewish?

Statement on the Legia Warsaw game here;

Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that no away fans were allowed into Villa Park for this evening's UEFA European Conference League fixture with Legia Warsaw on the advice of West Midlands Police following large-scale disorder outside the stadium caused by visiting supporters.

The UK safety authorities, UEFA and Aston Villa, communicated on November 2 that the ticket allocation for away fans for this fixture would be reduced to 1,002 on the advice of safety authorities as a result of previous large-scale disorder caused by Legia fans last month at AZ Alkmaar.

Approximately an hour before kick-off, Legia fans engaged in planned and systematic violent acts against West Midlands Police officers and a decision was then made by West Midlands Police to exclude all Legia supporters.

Why do you throw allegations around like that?

You’re saying that bans never happen because of previous behaviour. See the old firm.
