The Flotilla and Greta - a PR disaster

BewaretheIckabog · 07/10/2025 23:09

To think the flotilla and unsubstantiated reports of Greta’s mistreatment have caused a massive detriment to the pro-Palestinian cause.

So many people who have said little on this issue are now appalled that the idea the flotilla members are claiming they have been kidnapped and tortured by the Israelis.

Comments I’ve heard are, if you want to talk about torture and kidnap, watch the bodycom footage from 7 October. Google Shani Louk and Evyatar David.

Even the idea that her fellow protestors were horrified that the I D F pulled ‘little Greta’s hair’ (she’s a full grown woman) don’t sit well.

The accusations from the flotilla are the Israelis are indiscriminate war criminals and slaughterers - why would hair-pulling be noteworthy - after all they are allegedly intent on genocide.

When will useful idiots realise stupid PR stunts are so far from what this situation needs and realise they do more harm than good?

Virtue signalling never achieves anthring. The only thing that can achieve anything is the diplomacy happening in Qatar right now.

The virtue signalling actually could prolong the war as it gives Hamas hope that they have some global support and if they can some how wait it out international pressure I Israel will save their depraved evil asses.

Yeah that's probably why polls don't align with your post, because they didn't poll you Grin

To be fair, someone on the thread about the pro Palestine marches posted about a survey according to which 46% of British Muslims sympathised with Hamas, and people responded that neither them nor their friends had been polled, so it goes both ways.

Wakeuplittlebunnies · 08/10/2025 00:40

The UK and other foreign nationals that are working there as Doctors, the American soldiers who went to help distract the aid?

They have all come back and said how they have witnessed Israel killing children

It's horrifying.

Public opinion is strengthening. Regardless of what the OP states.

No matter what someone who is pro Palestinian does they will receive abuse for it. It's par for the course. It's water off a ducks back for most now. The important thing is that the message of Israels barbarity has been spread far and wide. For the next few decades at least when people think of Israel, starving children, children without limbs, tiny little shrouds and hateful genocidal politicians will be the first thing so many people think of. The videos of what they have done to so many children are burnt into people's minds. No amount of name calling can change that, people know what they have seen and heard with their own eyes and ears.

Youre so transparent in your hatred I'm embarrassed for you.

As you said above, the most important thing for you is that everyone can see Israels barbarity. You make that clear every day on here. We see it.

Tje most important thing for me and im sure lots of other people is for this conflict to end. Not just more hatred. That perpetuates it.

When I think of Israel I think of the farms, the olive groves, the beaches full of young people in Tel Aviv. The food. The discourse. The way in Jerusalem all 3 quarters, Muslim, Jewish and Christian all come together.

Israel is so much more than what you say. You're diminished by the way youre constantly one siding this and posting about hatred.

Greta appears to have posted a picture of the poor Israeli hostage Evyatar David who was starved and forced to dig his own grave as evidence of Israeli brutality of Palestinian prisoners rather than of Hamas, who are holding him hostage.

I know she refused to watch the October 7th footage last time Israel 'abducted' her but it seems like she hasn't actually engaged with any news that's critical of Hamas if she didn't recognise that picture as an Israeli hostage?

Did the doctors witness “Israel killing children” or did they see children with shot wounds, without knowing for sure who it was who shot those children?
Public opinion might be strengthening, doesn’t necessarily mean the public know what actually happened either.

It's all very well, listing the positive attributes.

But the fact remains. Israel is trying to wipe out a race of people.

PaxAeterna · 08/10/2025 07:22

No I don’t at all. Activists are going back to their 40 different countries giving reports of the brutality of the prison.

Some well seasoned activists, experienced people, some of which I know on those boats were very shuck up about the whole thing, having experienced both petty and extreme cruelty in this high security prison.

And The Ben-Gvir video was completely nuts. Like something you’d see come out of North Korea .

So I have a new respect for Greta.
She gave a very composed speech focusing on the plight of Palestinians. She’s clearly made of stern stuff.

I agree with you. I imagine, people remembering Israel for decades for starving, injured and dead children is exactly what Hamas wanted when they launched a war they knew they couldn’t win militarily.

TicklishMauveSquid · 08/10/2025 00:28

No, I think outside of your particular bubble, most people thinking of Israel will think of the savages who invaded and carried out unthinkable atrocities on peaceful communities which those savages carried out to start a war to deliberately destroy their own people, and also of how the hatred for Israel while it was fighting for survival on 6 fronts, removed the mask of rabid global Jew hatred that has persevered for centuries.

I really don't get this mindset. What the Israel government and soldiers are doing to the Palestinians is absolutely horrific (not the Jewish people). That doesn't make me anti-Semitic. I think what Hamas did is terrible and there are many Jews who think what Israel is doing is abhorrent. Well done Greta for doing something. We all sit from our armchairs saying this side is right, this side is wrong etc while hundreds of children are dying or being horrifically maimed every day. It makes me despair of humanity.

What exactly did Greta do what’s so laudable? What did she achieve?
Do you know that there are actual peace talks happening right now, all without the help of the flotilla activists?

The only reason Greta did anything at all was to make people like you say "Well done Greta"

ThatLadyLady · 08/10/2025 07:36

They really haven’t.

I think it’s hilarious that people try to say anything that happens has “damaged the cause”. Look outside of your bubble and realise that the majority of us don’t endorse violence, kidnap or detention without charge.

the flotilla has done exactly what it was meant to do. It has highlighted the illegal naval blockade and has given a first hand insight into how Israel treats its prisoners.

You think that the illegal naval blockade is PR?

The disassociation is staggering at this point. You can sit in your echo chamber and believe that everyone thinks what Israel is doing is right, or you can listen to others and accept that actually, it’s not okay.

I saw that. It appears no-one checks what they are spreading on her own social media - pictures of Israelis and posted as Gazans beggars belief. Do they fact check anything they share at all.

As expected she is well and not being tortured.

BewaretheIckabog · 08/10/2025 09:00

All those people who are upset that ‘little Greta’ may have had her hair pulled should be glad she didn’t reach Gaza. It’s a war zone where she could have been shot or killed by an air strike.

Highlighted what? Everyone’s been aware of the conflict anyway.

KoalaKoKo · 08/10/2025 09:28

The flotilla’s have achieved huge support and highlighted Israel’s illegal activities at sea including an illegal blockade and the abduction of people from around the world from international waters. It has also highlighted their brutal treatment of people in prisons.

I have noticed more and more people are wearing pro Palestine items in my local area in the South West which I hadn’t seen much of before, also some car bumper stickers. A lot more people are becoming aware of the treatment of Palestinians and are standing up and saying “no more”.

EasternStandard · 08/10/2025 09:35

I think reasonable people want the peace negotiations to work and that’s the main focus. There are probably mixed views on Greta, what they’re doing is mostly SM level stuff.

Everexpanding · 08/10/2025 09:38

TicklishMauveSquid · 08/10/2025 00:38

What evidence is there that Israel killed all those children?

Hamas Health Ministry says?

An anti Israel NGO and the UN says?

Here are the names @TicklishMauveSquid

https://www.theguardian.com/world/ng-interactive/2025/oct/08/young-lives-cut-short-on-an-unimaginable-scale-the-18457-children-on-gazas-list-of-war-dead

The list of named victims maintained by health authorities in Gaza is recognised as authoritative by the international community, the UN and Israel’s military, although Israeli politicians frequently try to dismiss it.
But the strict rules that ensure its credibility also mean it cannot capture the full scale of tragedy inflicted on Gaza’s children and their families.
Missing from the toll are the thousands of victims still buried under the rubble of destroyed buildings as well as the war’s many indirect victims. Israel’s blockade has created deadly shortages of food, medicine, clean water and fuel.
Starvation has killed at least 150 children.

Young lives cut short on an unimaginable scale: the 18,457 children on Gaza’s list of war dead

Every name on a list compiled by health authorities in Gaza of the child victims of Israel’s offensive

In case someone thinks I have made this up (a bit like Greta's social media account) I haven't. The story of her social media posts claiming its poor Gazans when it was a Israeli hostage have hit mainstream newspapers now:

Someone (Greta and friends) ready does need to fact check before sharing misinformation to such a wide audience

Greta Thunberg shares post of 'suffering' with pic of Israeli hostage

Alongside images of Palestinians suffering injuries and being manhandled by IDF soldiers, Thunberg, 22, made a major blunder and shared a photo of hostage Evyatar David

If it’s genuinely Greta’s account (and it seems like it is?), then it’s absolutely bonkers.
The picture of Evyatar David was on the news when it first came out, I remember seeing it on front pages.
How did she and whoever put together that lovely collage miss it?
