Under BN no, I don't think peaceful protest would win political ends.

But I do 100% think it would mean less retaliatory violence, even under BN.

And I honestly think if Palestinian leadership were to put out a statement on behalf of both Gaza and WB that there would be no more violence and Hamas were gone, hostages returned, and for say for example 6m; no rockets, no bombs, no terrorism, no shootings, peaceful delegations sent to the USA and Europe to advocate the Palestinian cause, international pressure would be such that a real peace process to a 2ss could start.

The constant use of violence isnt working for Palestinians is it? In neither Gaza or the WB are their lives improving.

They should try another way. Its their future, after all. Israel is taking care of its own. Palestinian leadership should try the same. I think under a moderate leadership next year, they could get their homeland.

I would hope they would.

And it does seem like the path that would lead to the least amount of bloodshed. The only part I think I would find difficult to agree with is that international pressure would affect BN, it would have to be the USA that would do this and I don't know if that would happen.

Also the effect of the plan signed yesterday to dissect the West Bank will completely effect people in Palestines attitudes, what's the point in doing the right thing and ending violence if a 2SS is never on the cards.

I thought theyd pulled back from that dissect plan. Awful news.

There cant be a solution to this until Palestinians have a homeland that they run for themselves ( without violence obvs )

Shortsighted of Israel. Actually worse. Stupid, and bound to result in more violence.

Completely agree .I did too, I was sure I read that last week but I saw this yesterday.

'There will be no Palestinian state': Netanyahu signs agreement for controversial West Bank settlement

The project, which would effectively cut the West Bank in two, could destroy plans for a future Palestinian state.

Here's an idea.

Since Israels reaction is predictably disproportionate, how about Islamic Jihad, Hamas, and any other assorted Palestinian terrorists simply just stop the terrorism?

Then Israel would have no excuse, right?

I think they should try it.

And then the international community would have ( even more ) sympathy with their cause.

Here's an idea. Israel stop occupying Palestinian territory.

Problem solved.

It's almost as though ending the violent occupation could be central to stopping all this violence.

It's astounding how you've solved this centuries old conflict in 2 sentences.

🙄

Fair point.

Israel should get out of the WB and go home. Take their bloody settlers with them.

Palestinians should stop using terrorism as a mean of political protest.

Maybe that would be a start.

The thing is though in every single society there are violent people. The vast, vast, vast majority of Palestinians are peaceful and are just trying to live their lives as best they can in really difficult situations. There isn't one Palestinian hive mind that can say enough now, no more violence and there it is no more violence. It doesn't work like that. You are asking Palestinians to do what no other society and certainly not one under violent occupation has managed to do, eradicate terrorism. Only then, if they manage the impossible they be seen worthy of help?

Well it's worth a try surely. The occupation is the main problem, much as people who support it try to deny it.

A source linked to Hamas, nice!

Here is mediabias/factcheck's summary:

Overall, we rate Quds News Network as Left-leaning in bias and questionable due to a lack of transparency, the promotion of propaganda, poor sourcing, and numerous failed fact checks.

Dont you care about the number of dead people in Palestine? Like seriously, do you just not care?

Why would Sharon pointing out that Quds news network is not a reputable source due to a lack of transparency, the promotion of propaganda, poor sourcing, and numerous failed fact checks mean that she doesn't care about dead people in Palestine?

It's possible to debate without getting personal and it's possible to stand up for Israel but also believe their government have gone too far re civilian deaths.

No. The occupation is not the main problem. The main problem is the stated desire of Hamas, Iran and others to destroy Israel and kill Jews.

Does that give Israel the right to kill 65000 Palestines then? Its obvious who is being killed and wiped out. Im surprised you dont see it.

You think the main problem in the West Bank(where this event took place) is the desire of Hamas, Iran and others to destroy Israel and kill Jews? Not the fact that Israel have stated over and over again that they want the West Bank for themselves, not the fact that they have put policies in place to take the land for themselves, not the fact that their army defends violent settlers as they take land for themselves, not the fact that they have put in place a two tier system which makes life difficult for Palestinians(understatement) like if you are Jewish you can have water if you are Palestinian you can't. None of that is the 'main' problem. Israel are just defending themselves in Palestinian territory right, it's completely inconsequential that they shouldn't actually be there at all.

SharonEllis · 13/09/2025 09:46

I got my threads mixed up. I thought we were talking about Gaza. People so often say, inaccurately, that Gaza is occupied. No I don't think Israel should be occupying the WB. I think they need to withdraw the settlers. Im under no illusion that in the short term that would stop terrorism or, yes, the desire of many Palestinians and others to destroy Israel, which fundamentally IS the main problem. But it would be a necessary step to peace.

Hamas et al exist because of the occupation.

It's disappointing that you completely disregard (and in the case of Gaza, deny) the occupation and the subjugation of Palestinians for decades but it takes all sorts I guess.
