I agree with your first paragraph that it doesn’t automatically mean they are biased towards Hamas. But it’s highly likely they are biased towards a pro Palestinian/anti Israel perspective.

At the very least their historic ties with the Hamas government poses the question - are they as neutral as many people assume them to be? If they are passionate towards the Palestinian people’s fate ( which yes, I agree many would be while working amongst them delivering aid) then doesn’t that presuppose they already would have developed some anti Israel sentiment before 7/10?

What we are really lacking in this conflict is unbiased sources of information. It’s just wrong to me when I see people assuming the UN are unbiased. I’m not convinced we are getting any unbiased information from any source at the moment.

But if individuals who work for the UN time have seen Palestinians suffering violence, for example, due to settler attacks or interviewed women who have been abused in Israeli prisons, is judging that unfair bias? Is it even bias? I don’t see the U.N. condemning Hamas atrocities as bias. I don’t see the U.N. condemning settler violence as bias. Surely being neutral doesn’t mean stating no opinion on the negative actions of any state?

I agree that there is a lot of bias in reporting and SM is flooded with misinformation. I personally put the most ‘faith’ in a combo of MM sources and the NGOs that focus humanitarian work. Imperfect, sure, but way better than any government linked source or random X commentator.

Your truth, not mine. I don't engage when I know I'm going to be presented with repetitive copy and paste, masquerading as fact.

What about quotes from Israeli politicians?

Hamiltonfan · 23/08/2025 10:31

Oh the guardian. It'll be true then.

Hamiltonfan · 23/08/2025 10:32

FWIW I've commented on a few restaurants posts asking about the famine. No response. If it was run by Israelis wouldn't they have responded to strengthen their case?

Dangermoo · 23/08/2025 10:33

PinkBobby · 23/08/2025 10:29

What about quotes from Israeli politicians?

Are their words gospel, just because they are Israeli? Are we talking fact or conjecture in those quotes?

Martymcfly24 · 23/08/2025 10:35

So you are saying the information in the media (that has 81 million unique views a month) contained in the article is all lies.

But your random unchecked social media accounts are correct.

Ok....

Hamiltonfan · 23/08/2025 10:35

And interestingly the guardian doesn't dispute these cafes existence unlike you.
During a famine I'm not sure that businesses should be charging for food? Highly likely these are Hamas associates.

Livelovebehappy · 23/08/2025 10:35

It is indeed a disgrace. Look what Hamas have done! Created a situation where they have condemned their own people to this. I hope once this is done that they will be held accountable and brought to justice.

Can you post where I said they didn't exist?

So let’s get this straight.

You don’t believe any sources you don’t want to, and you don’t believe when the Israeli government says they want to eradicate Palestine?

You really just believe your own viewpoint and ignore anything that doesn’t fit with it.

How do you interpret eradicate Palestine?

It’s still bias even if it can be explained.

Someone wouldn’t be picked to be on a jury if they have reason to be biased ( even if their bias was understandable) because it is assumed they couldn’t be completely impartial.

It’s just questionable judgement if people assume the UN are neutral. I made the same mistake myself at the beginning but I have since come to understand they aren’t.

Particularly taken by the language "political theatre" to describe Israel's stance. They do love to tug at the old heartstrings with their dramatic tones.

Again answering a question with a question.

It’s quite simple to interpret. They wish for Palestine to be wiped off the map. They have destroyed all key infrastructure, they have made sure that even if this does end, Palestinians will face hell. They’re starving an entire population, ensuring that the children in Palestine grow up and are unable to function as you’d expect.

OK, so if that's the case, do you believe that free Palestine from the river to the sea means Palestians want Israel wiped off the map?

Smotrich is a far-right Israeli cabinet minister, he does not represent the views of the Israeli government, nor the Israeli people.

Sometimes politicians say bad things. Look at the anti-semitism spouted by the UK Labour Party.

Smotrich wants to “kill the de facto Palestinian state” (his words not mine!) and fill it with illegal settlements. That sounds like eradicating Palestine to me. Plus being keen to move all of the Palestinians out of that area which would be ethnic cleansing.

Wedonttalkaboutboris · 23/08/2025 10:59

Hamiltonfan · 23/08/2025 10:26

They aren't fake. They have maybe moved location but are freely sharing their videos still (in Arabic)

Gaza has been officially declared to be in a man-made famine by the UN OCHA, yet you’re citing social media videos that are clearly Israeli propaganda? I’m astonished you’ve chosen to double down on THIS.

Check Google Maps- those “cafes” and “restaurants” are rubble. Where have they magically moved to?

I’ll stick to verified humanitarian and medical sources, not fake accounts spreading disinformation.

Have the UN referred to Hamas as terrorists?

Netanyahu confirmed in his most recent interview that he doesn’t even represent his views as Smotrich is more extreme.

So he definitely doesn’t represent the views of the Israeli government or people. Though I do think Netanyahu has been foolish to keep Smotrich in his government.

I think Smotrich has got himself a fan club.
