Just back today from Israel and unlike there, where there are posters of the hostages lining the streets, here it’s old news and forgotten. THEY have been forgotten.

In the UK posters of hostages, yellow ribbons and memorials have been defaced or torn down since 7/10.
I doubt that anyone shouting free Palestine at visibly Jewish people, or daubing it on walls, or painting their hands red, is silently saying 'from hamas' either.

This is where I centre my support, those held in Gaza, alive and dead, and their families are not forgotten by me. I know I'm not alone in that.

I don't entirely agree, the hostages are not forgotten in the UK.

If MumsNet can have a continual running thread, which is added to every single day and I suspect seen by others as it will pop up in latest messages,
Mumsnet is just one tiny little bit of living in the UK - tho of course I realise not everyone on Mumsnet is in the UK, tho the UK is where it originated.

It makes me think and believe they are remembered by other people elsewhere.
Maybe I am very naive.

Not everyone who posts on this thread is Jewish, ( or the previous ones ) well I am not and I guess others are not either.

I would also believe that the hostages are very much remembered and thought about in the Synagogues throughout the UK, and prayed for.

I am not surprised there are posters of the hostages everywhere in Israel, the hostages were living in Israel when they were taken, the majority of their families will be in Israel.
I believe the majority of the hostages are Israeli, and I also believe the majority are Jewish people.

It is sad to realise the 2 year anniversary is rapidly approaching

“IDF recovers body of slain hostage Ilan Weiss, remains of another captive, from Gaza
IDF and Shin Bet forces recovered the body of slain hostage Ilan Weiss in an operation in the Gaza Strip, the military says in a statement.
His body was recovered along with the remains of a second hostage, whose identity is not yet public, the IDF says.
The identification process for the second recovered body is still ongoing at the Abu Kabir National Institute of Forensic Medicine.
Weiss, 56, was killed on the morning of October 7, 2023, while defending Kibbutz Be’eri as a member of the emergency response team.
His wife Shiri and daughter Noga were also taken hostage and later freed during a weeklong truce and hostage release deal in November 2023.
The IDF says the complex recovery mission in Gaza was carried out by Southern Command forces with intelligence provided by the Military Intelligence Directorate, the Shin Bet, and the Hostages and Missing Families Forum.”

Bittersweet to read that two bodies have been retrieved and repatriated. My thoughts are with the hostages still missing, those waiting for them and those grieving anew.

The second hostage retrieved is named as Idan Shtivi. ברוך דיין אמת 💔 יהי זכרו ברוך

“Shtivi, now confirmed as the second slain hostage whose body was recovered in the operation, was murdered at the Nova music festival during the Hamas terror group’s October 7, 2023, onslaught in southern Israel.
Shtivi, 28, was a nature lover and photography enthusiast who had been studying sustainability and government at Herzliya’s Reichman University.
His body was identified at the Abu Kabir Institute of Forensic Medicine. In a statement, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Shtivi “a man of great courage and heart.”

“On October 7, 2023, he took part in the Nova music festival, and when the terrorist attack began, he acted to rescue and save many participants at the party,” said Netanyahu.
He was seized by Hamas terrorists at the desert rave, where he had volunteered to photograph the event.
He joined the party at 6 a.m. — just half an hour before the attack started — and called his girlfriend at 7, telling her about the missiles overhead and that he was leaving.
Shtivi left in his car with two friends, but was blocked by the terrorists on the road heading north. He then turned the car around and started driving south, but was driven off the road, lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.
He was last seen in that location, and the car was later found full of bullet holes and blood. His friends’ bodies were found at the scene.”

Just wanted to add there still is an October 7th memorial up in Brighton, it has been defaced but always gets put back up again.
There is also a service in a public square every evening for the hostages and victims of October 7th.

The hostages still missing and those waiting for them, trapped in the appalling limbo of not knowing, are not forgotten.
