U.S. President Donald Trump called for Israel to pardon Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or cancel his corruption trial, saying the U.S. would save him like it did his country.

What? This is awful, but somehow I am not surprised. Nothing surprises me anymore with Trump or Netanyahu.

Common sense prevails.

veiledsentiments · 26/06/2025 11:26

Netanyahu was indicted in 2019 in Israel on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust

Well if that what you think makes a good leader, then Israel probably deserve it.

I wonder how Israeli's feel about this intrusion into their justice system by Trump.

Well common sense and Trump are not two words I would ever use together, but you do you.

Doubt Israelis would agree with you. Why is letting politicians away on corruption charges common sense? They are elected officials there to serve their electorate. They're not Gods. I expect more, much more from my tax dollars

Corruption charges, I might buy but not genocide. If he is guilty of corruption, then he's made his own bed. I find the whole genocide saga has been made into a circus. Not, of course, the outcome of civilians killed, but it's a lynch mob frenzy, which devalues real genocide.

MrsSkylerWhite · 26/06/2025 11:51

Sorry that the slaughter of tens of thousands of innocents isn’t real enough for you, @Dangermoo .

It's not genocide, it's an antiterrorist mission, imo. There will be people, who agree with me and there will be those, that don't.

Dangermoo · 26/06/2025 12:02

I do wonder if Trump is angling to persuade Netanyahu to end the war, with dangling a carrot on wiping off the corruption charges. How much sway the US has in that, I don't know. That's what my common sense looks like.

Well it's the corruption charges that Trump wants to pardon him on so not sure why you posted it was common sense. There's nothing in the op about the war crime charges

I would like to think none, Israel is a democratic country I'd be very worried if I thought foreign leaders could influence national legislatures.

Dangermoo · 26/06/2025 12:17

Fair enough.

fixingmylife · 26/06/2025 12:30

It's worth pointing out that genocide is not just a word thrown around by activists — it's a legal term being actively examined by the International Court of Justice, based on evidence submitted by multiple nations and organisations. Far from being a "circus", experts in genocide law, human rights, and the UN have raised serious and credible concerns.

Calling it a "frenzy" may reflect how some people feel about the tone of the debate online, but it doesn’t invalidate the substance of the accusations. The idea that discussing genocide “devalues real genocide” also risks implying there's a correct or convenient time to name atrocities — and history shows us that delay in recognising warning signs is part of what enables them.

"Actively examined" - you said it. I certainly do stand by how the word has been picked up and hysterically run with.

Yes — actively examined by the ICJ, which is exactly how international law is meant to operate when allegations of genocide are made. It’s not hysteria — it’s a legal process. That’s why I used the phrase: to distinguish between online rhetoric and actual legal scrutiny.

I know it's a legal process, which did not categorically conclude genocide had/is taking place.

"anti terrorist mission"?!

They've set up aid centres and then shoot starving children. Call it what it is - murder. Netanyahu IS guilty of war crimes.

Madcatdudette · 26/06/2025 15:21

Bad new only for one ‘country’
Bad news only for those of you who hate Israel and support terrorist regimes.
Pro Palestine supporters must be terribly upset. The rest of the west couldn’t give a flying fuck.
Do you all care about the potential ‘genocide atrocities’ in the west?

veiledsentiments · 26/06/2025 15:21

Wherever Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu looks, trouble seems to be looming.
Criticism of his government’s war on Gaza is mounting, with charges of genocide and war crimes coming from both foreign leaders and former Israeli prime ministers.
Domestically, Netanyahu faces deep criticism of a war many believe he is only prolonging to stay in power.

He’s a weasley scumbag.
