Has anyone else watched this? I've just finished it and think it's actually quite realistic with the tensions on the West Bank and in Gaza pre the war. And the war that Hamas started was predicted in the 2nd season. Just thought it's a good series to watch to see both sides ( although it's obviously from an Israeli viewpoint but I think they do a good job of the human emotions involved with both sides).

I’ve watched it long time ago. I watched it with a perspective of a country going against a terrorist group rather than Israel vs Hamas as of course it’s quite unbiased.

I believe I read one of the actors was injured or killed quite early on in the war

Bodumb · 23/02/2025 20:37

Yes, I found it really interesting and revealing. Especially how many Israeli speak lots of Arabic

My nephew and his mum made Aliyah when he was 10 or 12, he didn't mind learning Hebrew, but he hated having to learn Arabic, as all Israelis do.

Yes I think they were ( Idan?) but I think they're recovered now? I just thought the whole series was actually quite an accurate portal of how Israel/ Gaza was before the war and would be good to watch for people only watching the situation now.

I just searched. One was injured and one killed (not an actor but a member of the film)

I’d say how Gaza / Israel (actually I think it would be West Bank? To be honest I can’t remember as I watched it long time ago) was before ago from an Israeli point of view

Yes only one season was set in Gaza, and it's definitely from an Israeli viewpoint.

I watched it sometime ago. It was very good in terms of a television drama . Well acted , good storytelling etc .
I thought it was fairly even handed in its portrayal of Israelis and Palestinians ( from my recollection most characters were nuanced - a mixture of good and bad - most were traumatised in some way . )
The audience was definitely encouraged to understand the complexity and to sympathise with both sides ( in my opinion)

Bodumb · 23/02/2025 23:09

Yes agree both sides nuanced.

I also watched all the series some time ago and found it excellent.

All Jewish-Israelis do (at least theoretically) learn Arabic. It’s a required subject as a second foreign language in years 7-9. A problem is that the Arabic taught in schools is formal Arabic rather than spoken Arabic, which are different enough that learning school Arabic doesn’t make someone able to hold a conversation.
