Can someone explain Islamophobia to me?

I don't think I have an irrational fear of Muslims, but I think I have a reasonable concern about radical Islam, does that make me Islamophobic?

That men do the same. And no, sects in North Africa are not the point when discussing Islamophobia in the UK. Do try to keep relevant.

Why are they not relevant? Everybody seems to end up here…

Why do so many Muslims move from majority Muslim countries to non majority Muslim countries?

Because it raises the average IQ of each country.

BaMamma · 22/02/2025 23:09

peanutbuttertoasty · 22/02/2025 23:05

Do you have evidence for that? I’d be curious to see official statistics.

but yes you are right. There are numerous warnings to the west from Islamic figures about the dangers of Islam. And presumably a good reason why no Islamic countries will take refugees from Palestine

It's an old article, but I think still relevant - How millions of violent Muslim deaths feed the cycle of terrorism

This one is slightly more recent - Islam and the Patterns in Terrorism and Violent Extremism

Those headlines themselves are enlightening and do absolutely nothing to persuade that Islamophobia is irrational 😅

Here’s a report that packages it up nicely, from a centre US think tank. Top of the Google results ;) https://www.csis.org/analysis/islam-and-patterns-terrorism-and-violent-extremism

Of course uk has some corruption, but it's one of the least corrupt countries in the world. Don't compare it to most of the world where you have to bribe your way through the day - from traffic police to exam results to buying and selling votes or elections. It's like saying living in Woolwich is just the same as living in Richmond - both have crime. Thick person's argument.

The U.K. via its organisation TransparencyInternationalUK does grade levels of corruption in the countries of the world, and unsurprisingly places itself in the top 20 for least corrupt. No conflict of interest or cultural bias there.

I think this is an attention seeking thread but as a Muslim happy to take your questions about my oppression and any other views you have of me as a Muslim female living in the UK.

I don't have any particular views about you as a Muslim, as long as you are not radicalized or fully veiled in public. Are you? If you are, I'm fascinated, what motivates you to become invisible, are you allowed to speak, how do you feel about that?

Sorry, but it’s not hard to find. And generally, this ‘scarcity of information’, ‘things that are too complex to understand’ posts are often right out of the playbook of bad actors, though I’m sure you’re in earnest.

That report seems somewhat distorted to me. In the first few paragraphs it minimised the threat of islamists to populations in the west but completely disregarded other religious groups the world over. Aren’t Christians the most persecuted in the world? If you’re looking at radical Muslims vs Christians in the west then yes, it’s of coursed dwarfed by Muslim on Muslim violence. But worldwide? I stopped reading because those stats seemed to have been ignored.

The definition is right here, top of the thread.

The definition given by @BaMamma is incomplete. Islamophobia is not just a fear. It is also hostility and prejudice.

As per its definition.

I consider all organised religion to be brainwashing if that takes the sting out.

Alphavilla · 22/02/2025 23:23

I fucking hate the degradation of women in Afghanistan and Iran. Does this make me an islamophobe?

Dinnerplease · 22/02/2025 23:24

Behold, the world produces a report that provides you with this information.
reliefweb.int/report/world/global-terrorism-index-2024

Over 6000 people died in Burkina Faso alone last year. Over 400 attacks in Pakistan. The Sahel is the fastest growing place for extremist terror attacks. You just don't hear about them.

You know that Muslim majority countries have counter-terrorism police for just this reason? Of those 6000 people in Burkina I think about 5000 were military. They're not exactly thrilled.

SummerFeverVenice · 22/02/2025 21:54

Don’t be disingenuous the OP specifically objected to niqab and burka. They were targeting only Muslim face coverings for women.

What other religions prescribe face coverings for women?

Well Wikipedia references a study from 2016 saying 80% to 90% of victims of Islamic terrorism are Muslim.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_terrorism

the warnings are not about Islam they are about Islamic terrorism. Fundamentalism and extremism is a concern. But you’re trying to conflate Muslim’s with terrorism.
