Can someone explain Islamophobia to me?

I don't think I have an irrational fear of Muslims, but I think I have a reasonable concern about radical Islam, does that make me Islamophobic?

In fact, Muslims are the biggest victims of Islamists. More Muslims have died at their hands than non-Muslims.

This doesn't sound like a positive selling point for the religion

It is not a selling point, it is the statistical truth. Also, most of these extremist groups are not organic formations of religion but rather religion is being used as a tool for political purposes:

Quite.

so Muslims incite all the violence and are also the biggest victims. And we’re supposed to want this here, why?

It’s irrelevant whether it’s all Muslims. Of course it’s not.

What don’t you want here exactly? Islamists aren’t welcome in the UK by anyone which begs me to wonder what exactly you’re referring to.

Religions have their rules and practices. This is nothing new or out of the ordinary for Islam.

That does not make it non-problematic.

The fabric of our society is broken. People living parallel lives to very different social norms and values is incredibly unhelpful.

Extreme Islamists do not represent all Muslims.

In fact, Muslims are the biggest victims of Islamists. More Muslims have died at their hands than non-Muslims.

And you are focusing on the extremes but ignoring that those extremes aren’t widely practised. The Bible has some harsh and extreme verses. So does the Torah. But those verses are largely ignored. Just like the majority of Muslims largely ignore them.

Thanks. I'm really aware that the extreme ones, thank goodness, do not represent Muslims as a whole, I'm aware they are really only a tiny number. Unfortunately they are quite noisy.

Do you think there will ever be a schism between these fucking insane assholes and the normal moderates?

Define discrimination? Honestly believe the Muslim population is the least discriminated against in this country. The number of accommodations is baffling!!

The language used in your post here is very telling.

They don't want Muslims here evidently. Just too cowardly to say it outright: "wE dOnt wAnt yoUr sOrt eRe!!!

There are some seriously shady characters in the legal world who crop up time and time again to attempt to stop Muslim defendants being subject to British law; and I will say no more than that.

I am a lawyer. Please PM their details and I can do more digging for you.

Noisy you say? So are brexiters, the far right etc. They seem to get alot of airtime. Good job I don't think all English people are ignorant, hate-filled people like them.

I think time. The second or third generation. Once they are more removed from the cultural background of the first generation.

Yes it’s pretty obvious how they try and skirt around that.

Completely missed my point. I don't think all Muslims are ignorant and hate filled.

Will there be a schism?

@OchaLove yes and it's not convincing me on religion

With the ‘skirting’ being the factually based, well reasoned arguments we’ve been giving for pages of this thread? And in the absence of a Sikh-phobia, Hindu-phobia, or Buddhist-phobia etc?

You and other posts kept trying to catch me out by giving extreme examples of Shariah law that are not even practised by Muslim countries. It’s hard not to assume otherwise.

Anyways, seeing as all Muslims worldwide have one hive mind and we are all responsible for each others thoughts and actions, perhaps my responses have helped challenge that.

It’s such a debate-terminating technique to accuse people who criticise certain aspects of Islam (like the face covering) of actually wanting all Muslims to leave.

Well in that case I’ll wait for peanutbuttertoasty to clarify what she meant in her post.

Ok, I’m happy to debate on your terms. What’s the most liberal Sharia country out there, in your view?

You said a couple of times you would like to see religious hatred outlawed.
Since it’s already illegal to discriminate based on religion, what additional legislation would you like to see?

peanutbuttertoasty · 23/02/2025 12:46

I think I’ve been entirely unambiguous in all my posts.

The growing prevalence and influence of Islam in the UK gives me grave concern, and I’ve seen absolutely nothing in this thread to assuage that.

I think the future of the UK looks bleak and violent and I hope to God that I’m wrong.

If there are reasons why western women should not fear the growing influence of Islam in the UK it would be great to know. Or you can just point and shout Islamophobia again and we’ll call it a day.

Yes, I already know it’s outlawed. I was answering a question about what laws I’d like in the UK. Apologies for omitting to add that it already exists.

I’m not fully versed on discrimination laws but if it is sufficient for protecting minorities then on the face of it it doesn’t need expanding.

So my assumption was right, you don’t want Islam in the UK? So I guess that expands to Muslims then.

Debate on my terms? Surely you can see that your constant attempts to suggest I support stoning of women and hands chopped off because I believe that Muslims (and other religions) should be allowed to live by their religious laws is quite a reach?

I am no expert on which countries follow Shariah and to what degree. But most Muslim majority countries don’t have women walking around wearing burqas and governed by men at all times, which seems to be a common fear on this thread. In any event, not sure how that is relevant to Muslims in the UK?

peanutbuttertoasty · 23/02/2025 12:59

Do I think mass immigration without assimilation over decades from incompatible cultures has been a mistake? Yes (and yet it continues) and we’re paying the price. I don’t particularly believe multiculturalism works anywhere. By which I mean people living by opposing values in the same country. Note I refer to culture, not race. Do I think we can or should reverse that? No; I’m not a fascist. Hence fear for the future. I see a tinder box and great threat to national security, but no acceptable solutions.

And seeing as it was you who resorted to making the comment of not wanting “this” hear when I have tried to engage, I think it’s clear to say that it was you who shut down the debate but making such comments.
