Don't try to justify torture. None of the surrounding crowds or female hostages were emaciated.
They have clearly been starved.
What you are saying is equivalent to justifying WW2 starvation by saying there was a temporary lack of food in Germany prior to and during the war.
Periodic reduced access to food in some areas doesn't excuse starving certain people as a form of torture.

Yes they have clearly been starved, so have the Palestinian people, it's not one or the other

Only problem there was they then continued relentlessly for 15 months, commiting many war crimes and completely losing the run of themselves

"Committing many war crimes" is more propaganda. I'm not denying there has been death and a great deal of suffering, but that must be laid firmly at the door of those who launched a savage and completely unnecessary terrorist attack against innocent civilians and stole them from their homes.

And again it is Hamas who chooses to hide right among their civilian populations, and themselves dress in civilian clothes - only to proudly put their uniforms back on after a ceasefire.

Do you think a former diplomat and policy adviser at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office also propaganda?

you can’t commit war crimes because others have committed atrocities. You have to abide by law or you will also be committing attrocities.

I saw illegality and complicity with war crimes. That’s why I quit the UK Foreign Office | Mark Smith

Ministers and senior officials protected arms deals facilitating death and horror in Gaza and Yemen. I urge my former colleagues to resist them, says one-time Foreign Office policy adviser Mark Smith

Dreadful stories in UK press on appalling treatment of hostages. Beatings and torture. Some kept in conditions where they could not even stand, deliberately starved and denied water. This is what many suspected and dreaded was happening. Absolutely heartbreaking.

Many similar stories from various outlets, this is a compact report.

www.lbc.co.uk/world-news/abuse-suffered-by-hamas-hostages-revealed-during-their-500-days-in-captivity/

Amnesty International has accused the Palestinian group, Hamas, of a brutal campaign of abduction, torture and killings against its own people over the past 16 months. I don't think the Israeli male hostages stand a chance of being treated humanely and protected from torture and other ill-treatment. Look at the state of Eli Sharabi, Ohad Ben Ami and Or Levy upon their release. It's obvious what they have been subjected to and still there are no demands from the international community for the unconditional release of the remaining hostages. Instead we're supplying aid, shelter for the people of Gaza and talking about rebuilding it whilst Israeli men, women and children (dead or alive) are being held for ransom, starved and tortured. WTF is wrong with this world.

76 hostages remain in Gaza. We now know what is happening to them, those that aren't already dead that is. All the hostages need to be returned home now. 🎗️

The war crimes that have been committed the past 15 months are by Hamas on all the hostages. The taking of hostages in the first place is a war crime as is the horrific torture of them once in captivity.

@GentleScroller There is a deal to release the hostages, but it's taking too long. I would hope conditions have improved as there is less bombing, and apparently a surge in aid. But the whole situation is so fragile, and the mistreatment of them so concerning, that their release needs to be sped up somehow, I think.

Yes totally agree, the taking of hostages/prisoners of war on both sides are war crimes, as is the horrific torture of them once in captivity, glad we agree on that

Some Palestinian people, the ones not beneficial to hamas. But there's a difference between them hoarding resources so there's not enough for the population who isn't useful to them, and actively starving someone until they are emaciated.
Luckily the Palestinians in Israeli custody aren't emaciated.

Branleuse · 10/02/2025 11:47

I find it absolutely incredible that anyone is trying to defend Israel at this point. Absolutely shameless and evil.

That was my first thoughts too. The whole process needs to be escalated. Hamas SHOULD release them unconditionally. Anyone detained without charge in Israeli prisons SHOULD be released unconditionally. Il be honest I find the negotiations surrounding the release of innocent people very distasteful.

Fixed it for you.

Have you not seen/read about the torture the three male hostages went through before their release on Saturday? 15 months of hell.

I should add Israel absolutely should demand to know the condition of the remaining Bibas family. Hamas earn themselves no favours by refusing to disclose at the minimum if they are even alive or not. It seems to me that withholding this information is a form of psychological warfare.

OwlInTheOak · 10/02/2025 11:59

Obviously guards shouldn't be getting physical. Unfortunately similar also happens in many other countries including the US, if a prisoner attacks a guard they will often come off worse.
Is there any cases where a non violent prisoner was assaulted?

Hamas are the kings of psychological warfare. They told the Israeli government that the Bibas family died some months ago but there is no proof. As the remaining hostages are men (and at least 33 dead bodies) I doubt very much that the family is still alive. 😢🎗️

Can you point who is trying to defend Palestinian terrorists? Unless you believe everyone that has been killed is a terrorist. Don’t think anyone is denying the torture the hostages have gone through. Shame the Palestinians don’t have the same sympathy

Palestinian terrorists aka Hamas. Plenty of posters are supporting them in this thread.

We must be in different threads … or using our biased opinion as I can’t see anyone supporting Hamas and their atrocities and everyone agreeing these men should have never been taken hostage
