Conflict in the Middle East

Out of the endless, obsessive threads on here about Gaza (“Conflict in the Middle East” LOL just be honest and call it the Gaza/Israel board since no one on here could probably even name another country in the Middle East let alone the numerous other conflicts there) there has not been one thread dedicated to the release of three female hostages yesterday.

Mumsnet is predominantly frequented by women, many of whom claim to have women and girls’ interests at heart and yet photographs of these three young women, who’ve been held at gunpoint by men for more than 15 months, who were made to wear specific outfits and smile for the camera before being released into a terrifying baying mob of masked men wielding machine guns literally stomping on top of Red Cross vans - with at least one of the woman we know for 100% having been the victim of male violence since she’s missing her fingers which they shot off her hand - while the others are very likely to have been sexually abused - doesn’t even warrant a thread.

It’s like maybe most of you that frequent this board don’t actually give a crap about humanitarianism… so I wonder what could be prompting your obsession with this conflict? Hmmm 🤔🤔🤔

That picture is terrifying.

Comedycook · 20/01/2025 15:28

Yes I agree with you

ViciousCurrentBun · 20/01/2025 15:37

I saw the report about the release on the news. Though I’m glad they have been released I wonder how their lives will pan out now after bring held for so long. I also think it’s highly likely they will have been subjected to sexual assault.

gingergran · 20/01/2025 15:45

You’re right

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 20/01/2025 15:53

It’s so sad.

I’m expecting a lot more being released won’t look so healthy.

EasterIssland · 20/01/2025 16:19

Whilst there are no threads there are several comments in multiple threads about these women and their release

wholettheturnipsburn · 20/01/2025 16:28

Not surprising given the tone police on this section

I wonder if we'll get threads about the innocent Palestinian prisoners released in exchange

Those poor girls. Surrounded by that baying mob.

Arayofcalm · 20/01/2025 16:33

Pretty sure there's a thread on hostages.

TheignT · 20/01/2025 16:36

I think speculating about if they've been sexually abused is unpleasant and disrespectful. If it has happened to you would you want people talking about it and if it hasn't happened to you would you appreciate people suggesting it?

If it's happened and they want you to know about it they will tell you otherwise let's respect their privacy.

Yes there is. I’ve open it myself. Nobody speaks about them and people are talking about them as if they all were terrorists when they’re not. Hostages as well as many of the Palestinian detainees deserve the same attention and empathy

Arayofcalm · 20/01/2025 16:33

Pretty sure there's a thread on hostages.

The hostage one as well as the ceasefire one

wholettheturnipsburn · 20/01/2025 16:42

With respect @EasterIssland How do you know so much about the prisoners (that you feel are as innocent as the hostages) to say with such confidence that they are innocent and wrongly imprisoned?

Where is this information from?

I saw one of them interviewed and he was looking forward to destroying Israel.

SpunkyCritic · 20/01/2025 16:50

I agree with you @BooToYouHalloween

The guardian as well as bbc were reporting about them
one of them imprisoned for demonstrating against the killing of children. Another one arrested after their brother was killed.

none of the ones had been convicted after a year of their arrest

i don’t want to derail more the thread (and I wasn’t the one bringing up the detainees) so I’ll leave it there

Good to see you managed to figure out how to start a thread on a topic you want to discuss. Shame you had to criticise and insult others for not doing so, never understand that mentality tbh. Surely if you wanted a thread dedicated to the 3 female hostages released opening with that would have generated a more appropriate discussion about them and what they have been through.

Do you think they would release the one who raped and decapitated a girl at the kibbutz - I think not!

Pretty much what I felt about the original post.

EachandEveryone · 20/01/2025 17:25

I feel exactly the same. I came on here to see if there was a thread whilst it was unfolding and I was shocked to find none.

What a patronising post. To say that people can't even name countries in the middle east is absurd. If you are so desperate to see a post on these three women then start one. Maybe give mention to the hundreds of Palestinians held in Israel as well whilst you are at it

Yes and disappointing to see that the poster that did set one up did so more to insult other posters. Strange mentality.

This paragraph should have stood out on its own. Horrifying account of what they had to go through
