Yarden Bibas will be released tomorrow but not his wife and children, which perhaps ends hopes that they are alive.

I’ve wondered for a while if they’re dead. Either that or they’re considered such high value hostages that they’re being kept?

I personally think that the Israeli government would have pushed for their release if they had even an inkling that they are alive. Hamas have said 8 of the hostages are dead and the Israli government said this matches their intelligence. However, they didn't give any names.

QuimCarrey · 31/01/2025 15:59

Yes, they did. Hamas also released a doubtless consensual video of Yarden blaming Netenyahu for their deaths.

Obviously Hamas are hardly a reliable source, and they've got previous for claiming someone was dead who later turned up alive. But the general consensus sadly seems to be that they're probably dead. If nothing else, the boys would've been more portable human shields for Sinwar than the six adults were.

Whatsinanamehey · 31/01/2025 16:02

They also weren't released during the first ceasefire when all the other hostage children were released. They said they were killed very early on in the war. I just hope that at the end of the first phase, when the bodies of the deceased are handed back, that it is done in a dignified manner.

Offthepath · 31/01/2025 16:12

Is nobody talking about how the rapist & murderer of Ori Ansbacher is released in this deal? Heartbreaking

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jan/31/hamas-to-release-israeli-hostage-yarden-bibas-wife-children-family Seems Hamas had said previously that they died at the start of the war in an Israeli attack.

No, we knew about the dad. The nun and babies no one knows what happened to them

The terrible cruelty of it all

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 31/01/2025 21:05

I'm honestly going out of my mind hoping shiri and her babies are alive. It's absolutely awful. Even to not confirm their status. Just wtf

I hope the bodies of those killed in Israeli prisons are released, too. I particularly want to know what happened to Dr Adnan Al-Bursh.

Me too.

And Dr Hussam, where is he? Why is he still being held without charge? What's happened to all the other medical staff that were taken from Gaza?

This seems an odd response to sub thread about the Bibas babies and the awful possibility that they may already be dead; that all their families will get back are their tiny bodies.

This is not a thread about the Bibas babies, it's a thread about the ceasefire. Read the title, it's literally called "A ceasefire deal has been agreed". If the bodies of the hostages who died in Gaza are to be released, so should the bodies of the Palestinians who were tortured to death in Israeli prisons.

That's literally why I referred to the sub thread that was about the Bibas babies, tiny children literally kidnapped and held hostage by savages.

I'm desperate for answers. A lot of other people are. He and all those who were abducted by the IDF must be released, too. I hope they're ok! Knowing what goes on in Israeli prisons, I am very worried for them. 😢 Autopsies on those who died in Israeli custody must be performed and thorough investigations have to be made.

But why start a conversation about them in response to comments about the Bibas babies?

The last I heard was Dr Hussam was transferred to the notorious Sde Teiman prison. The same one where Dr Adnan was tortured to death. No further updates since then.

When the police in Britain arrest violent criminals, do you refer to them as having been 'abducted'?

gloriagloria · 31/01/2025 23:34

I understood that the Israeli Government now know which eight hostages were no longer alive after the list was provided by Hamas four days ago?

They only gave a number, not the names if I'm correct.

Mumsnet doesn't have subthreads. The release of the bodies during an exchange is relevant to the topic of the thread we are on and the comment I replied to. If you want entire comment section to be devoted to the Israeli hostages, there's already a thread devoted to that.

@10UsernamesNotAvailableTryAnotherOne I very much have the same concerns as you. For those not familiar with how Palestinian detainees are kept in Israeli prisons better known as torture cells, should read this.

https://www.btselem.org/press_releases/20240805_welcome_to_hell

B’Tselem Executive Director Yuli Novak: “The Sde Teiman detention camp is just the tip of the iceberg. As we speak, thousands of Palestinians are being held in inhuman conditions and subjected to relentless abuse. Some do not know why they were arrested; many will be released without trial. This is the definition of a torture camp: a place that once you enter – no matter who you are or why you were arrested – you will be subjected to severe, deliberate, relentless pain and suffering.”

You were responding to a response about the Bibas babies. You didn't have to do that; you could have just posted to the thread generally.

Why did you post to a response about the Bibas babies?
