Why? Most of them have about as much chance of changing their Govt’s actions as you do in changing yours…. Virtually zero.

Igotjelly · 18/01/2025 09:34

If you’re British then you surely consider yourself equally accountable for a great number of actions that many would consider war crimes?

Ohthatsabitshit · 18/01/2025 09:35

🤷🏻‍♀️

So all the people in Gaza are accountable for Hamas' actions?

On what grounds?

Ohthatsabitshit · 18/01/2025 09:56

If you claim to be part of anything and presumably if you call yourself “Israeli” you are saying you are part of Israel, then you of course must consider what part you play in the behaviour of the group you are in. Most Israelis take an active part in their country, they pay taxes, do national service, vote, etc etc. if you then use those taxes to buy weapons and oppress, use that military resource to slaughter and oppress, vote in a government that behaves in the way it has been then of course you are accountable, how could you not be?

Please think before you speak and understand the context of your words.

I would also like to understand on what grounds you hold all Israeli Jews accountable.

By that logic anyone British or American paying taxes is also funding the weapons sent to Israel.

Igotjelly · 18/01/2025 10:04

I also think it’s important to consider how you would act if something as horrific as 7 Oct happened in your country. As I say I don’t condone the actions of the Israeli govt but equally I appreciate how utterly traumatic 7 Oct must have been and the anger it invoked.

How is it possible to know how any of us would act in any situation? Having said that I honestly doubt that my reaction would be to slaughter and maim tens of thousands of children, nor would it be to minimise that slaughter or justify it.

I hope that both sides can find peace and be very very brave facing the future with honesty and integrity.

So if your country was invaded and large numbers of completely innocent civilians were killed and kidnapped, & the perpetrators declared they would keep doing it, what would expect your government to do?

I think if you read the post you quoted it basically answers what you’ve asked.

What do you want to happen now and are you an Israeli or from another country?

Yes your post says essentially that you would not expect your government to respond of you were in that situation, I just wanted to be sure that was your meaning. So I take it that you think Israel should allow itself to be taken over by people who wish to kill all Jews and destroy Israel. That is the only reading of your position right?

GentleScroller · 18/01/2025 10:48

Ohthatsabitshit · 18/01/2025 10:18

Well obviously 🙄

So do you hold all Palestinians collectively accountable for the massacre on 7th October and initiating this conflict?

SharonEllis · 18/01/2025 10:51

@Ohthatsabitshit when someone is 'accountable' they have to be accountable to someone in some way. Who are all Israelis collectively accountable to? Or is the accountability' being destroyed?

Auvergne63 · 18/01/2025 11:25

IAmAHomewardBounder · 18/01/2025 09:40

So all the people in Gaza are accountable for Hamas' actions?

The last election in Gaza was over 20 years ago. Most of the present population were too young or unborn to vote. Making the majority of Gazan civilians responsible today for Hamas' actions is a very weak argument.
By contrast, the last election in Israel took place in 2022. Do you see where I am going? Any elected government represents the views of the people who voted for them.
Of course, Israeli citizens who didn't vote for the current government cannot be held accountable for Netanyahu and his far right cabinet members.
After all, the meaning of democracy is "rule by the people".

Did the poster used the term Jew in her post? No. So what are you trying to imply?

She didn't be need to use the word. The majority of Israelis are Jewish.

Soviet meddling in the Middle East like European (particularly British) and US meddling in the Middle East is something people from those countries/regions must recognise and are responsible for. We all play a part, big or small.

Obey the international laws they willingly signed to, when dealing with the perpetrators of the horrors of 07/10. Act within that remit.

Wow. You really missed the point or are blissfully blind! I obviously meant Russians and the invasion of Ukraine. Do you blame all Russians or us it just (Jewish) Israelis you blame? Rhetorical question of course.
