Apparently 15,000 Palestinian children have been murdered in this genocide. How anyone can defend Israel’s military actions is absolutely obscene . Before October 7th the Palestinians have been living in what is essentially an open-air prison . This is genocide , they have flattened the place. Even with a cease-fire that has come too late anyway how on earth are the Palestinians supposed to move on, the impact of that many people being murdered and displaced . It’s obscene . Absolutely obscene. I hope the people that make an sell these weapons burn in hell.

Maybe they can now start the lengthy process of trying to extract the dead who are still buried under the rubble, to atleast bury them properly.

A Phyrric victory for Biden. If he’d done this deal a year ago, this would have been the win humanity deserved. Making the deal now is the win he needs as he leaves office. History might treat Biden more kindly than he deserves to be treated thanks to this ceasefire deal just as he leaves office. All I see is an old man walking away from the dying dumpster fire of his own making (I’m viewing this from my American perspective… there are others involved, of course!).

It’s great that it’s happening, don’t get me wrong. But I can’t feel the joy, the big exhale. There’s been too much sorrow for too long. This deal could have and should have happened a year ago. It didn’t. We know why it didn’t happen then and we know the reality of why it’s happening now. All that said, thank God it’s happening at least.

Agree 100%, and Israel haven't even done what they set out to do in the first place which was to eradicate Hamas, over 64,000 innocent lives lost for nothing, absolutely disgusting

@SerenityNowInsanityLater i feel exactly the same. Of course it is fantastic but my goodness there is so much to be overcome. So many dead, so many traumatised, most of the Gaza uninhabitable, healthcare can't be rebuilt over night, schools and universities destroyed, employment gone. It is so so far from what their lives were like 15months ago, it's difficult to even imagine how they can move forward.

Yeah I’m being a bit cynical and rather lazy. My very jaded point is, this ceasefire deal has to happen on Biden’s watch, not Trump’s. It’s a small feather.

It annoys me when news reports say that the 'war' is ending. It is not a war it is a genocide.

I’m can’t help but feel sceptical that once all of the females have been released Israel will yet again break the ceasefire.

It’s why I stopped posting on MN. Every time I mention the genocide in Gaza, my posts get zapped. Narratives matter. The truth doesn’t. The truth will get you silenced.

I've changed my mind.
America suddenly put pressure on Israel because it had become sick and tired of the conflict.
In a speech by Blinken yesterday, he basically spelt out how Hamas couldn't be eradicated without implementing a whole raft of measures that basically took away a lot of Palestinian grievances. It was a clear turnaround of US thinking, or at least public expression of that thinking. It was actually quite heartening to hear him talk about international investment in Gaza's infrastructure.

It also goes to show how the US could have stopped this at any time, had it so wanted. But that's another story.
So it does look like the US will push against Israel and will press for greater Palestinian rights, so @mouthpipette you were wrong.

I agree it’s obscene, but I believe that after much time and further hardship Palestine will rebuild itself. I think it’s important to believe that.

Its crazy to think that it has taken so many deaths for the idiots in charge to understand what lots of people said from the very beginning. You can't bomb an ideology out of existence. The whole thing is just so fucked up from beginning to end. Men and their propensity for violence and greed taking over all common sense and decency.
