let’s hope it’s a permanent ceasefire and that hostages and those arrested without any reason are soon returned to their families.

Let's hope so.

Whatsinanamehey · 13/01/2025 22:16

More than 50 Palestinians killed by Israel in the past 24 hours. The ceasefire couldn't come any sooner.

Whatsinanamehey · 13/01/2025 22:21

I read that Trumps middle east envoy was quite stern with Netanyahu in their last meeting that he needs to agree to the deal.

I havent seen a list so I don't know how many slated for release were 'arrested without reason' - do you? In the past prisoner/hostage exchanges have included the release of Palestinians arrested and convicted for very good reasons. Sinwar, most notably was part of the release of 1000 Palestinians for 1 Israeli. The article says it includes people with quite hefty sentences.

Yes if they succeed in this it will be a big win

Trump’s inauguration bringing pressure

Nothavingfunrightnow · 14/01/2025 07:18

I'll state the obvious and say that it is so late in the day - genocide has already taken place.

Dulra · 14/01/2025 08:06

All over the media this morning so it definitely looks like it is very close. The hostages need to be released and Gaza needs to try and rebuilt its broken land and people. Independent investigators need access to work out what has been happening. There is still a massive void though as to who will govern in Gaza there has been no attempt to put any alternative in place, surely Israel are not going to leave Hamas there? Can the Palestinian Authority form an interim governing body?

I don’t know who will be released from Israel side requested by Hamas. But I know where my wishes are and those are the ones I hope get released.

Posters talking about trump. However seems like it’s Biden the one doing the agreement and the one who would get the win?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd0jgnvkdyno

Trump has envoy there and said hell will be unleashed if no deal

Biden will try to claim it but the incoming inauguration is likely a larger factor

Yes, there was a commentator on the radio yesterday saying that Smotrich, who is very much against a deal was not threatening to bring down the government this time. It was suggested that it might be because Trump is coming in to power whose right wing views very much align with Smotrich so he didn't want to risk not being in government when there's Trump in power in America.

Thanks! Probably both are trying the “I did it” badge

Realistically an incoming President will have more impact a week before an inauguration than an outgoing one

It is that relationship that will be the reality soon and have major impact

The deal has been on the table for months, so under Blinken & Biden. They want a deal before Trump cimes in. Trump will take the credit regardless. Of course he has an envoy there, thats normal in the period before election & inauguration.

And yet it wasn’t progressing no matter how many times Biden said it was close

Each time that failed

Think about it rationally a President who will unleash hell will force sides to act

That's true aswell.
I'm no Trump fan but I think the final push to Netanyahu has come from him. Each side will try and claim the full credit ofcourse.

Whatsinanamehey · 14/01/2025 08:31

The unleash hell was abit of a pointless threat when no indicator was given of what that would be. That's just classic Trump.

It’s not if it strikes a deal

The whole point is not to say just get people to act

I read that Trumps middle east envoy was quite stern with Netanyahu in their last meeting that he needs to agree to the deal.

Found the article, knew I had read it somewhere.

US President-elect Donald Trump’s Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff held a “tense” meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday during which the former leaned hard on the Israeli premier to accept compromises necessary to secure a hostage deal by the January 20 US presidential inauguration, two officials familiar with the matter tell The Times of Israel.
Witkoff’s pressure on Netanyahu appears to have had an effect, with the two officials familiar with the negotiations saying that key gaps were closed during the talks over the weekend.

There must be a ceasefire for the Palestinians and the hostages.
The way the Israeli government has treated the hostages' families has been despicable.

Ben Gvir openly admitted this morning, to much backlash that he has foiled every attempt of a ceasefire/hostage deal.

The man is vile. He couldn't care less about the hostages and Gazan civilians. He wants to pursue his goals of annexing Gaza and the West Bank at any cost.

Palestinians arrested and convicted for very good reasons

In a military court with no defence.

I suggest that we go together to the prime minister and inform him that if he passes the deal we will resign from the government
