Its a shame for the athletes, probably trained for years and possibly they are against the Netanyahu government as much as anyone else

Israel’s minister already accusing Iran about the sabotage that has happened today in France. Interesting that he’s got it so clear whilst France hasn’t pronounced yet.

“This was Palestine’s first ever flag bearer at the Olympics, Majed Abu Maraheel, in Atlanta ‘96. Abu Maraheel was killed in Gaza last month. Unable to receive adequate care at Gaza’s destroyed hospitals, he died of kidney failure.
These killings don’t figure in the death toll.”

These killings don’t figure in the death toll.”
Now I can understand why the US doctors writing to the President about their experiences of working in Gaza (
posted on a thread yesterday) said that they thought the real death toll was something more like 90,000.

I think a lot are assuming it's got Putin written all over it. Russia not allowed compete although some of their athletes are as individual neutral athletes.

I thought it was lovely that the Olympic Laureate was awarded to a key member of the UNHCR, Felipe Grandi.

Yes, I agree but I think the Lancets 186,000 is probably closer.

I just shared a video on the Rafah thread of the idf blowing up a water tank in Rafah which the poster said served a million people. In self defence, of course…

Yes as the guy being interviewed said (was he swedish?) best to keep politics out of it and focus on the sport because as demonstrated it doesn't end well and turns nasty.

Irish badminton player beat an Israeli player last night, great competitive match respectful athletes no tension as it should be. Important to stick to the Olympic values
