BBC article about the violence in the West Bank following the murder of Benjamin Achimeir.

Shocking but not surprising. I’m glad that the BBC is highlighting what happens on the sidelines of the war.

There are extremists on both sides and it is particularly horrible to see members of the police force being (potentially) involved in something like this. As if the illegal settlements weren’t bad enough.

The settlers literally do seem to be a law unto themselves. It's like the bloody Wild West!

Try reading the Old Testament histories. These people do not read their prophets who say that God does not want this sort of behaviour. They want the Bronze Age stuff. As if the Greeks were still trying to get Helen back from Troy. As if the Egyptians were still continuing the wars of Rameses II against the Hittites.

The mentality of the settlers is horrible to read about. I’m sorry to hear about the murder of the 14 year old but the response from the settlers is terrifying ( reminiscent of the KKK taking revenge on any/ every black person )

When you watch interviews with the equivalent of “man in the Clapham omnibus” aka every day zionists on “the ask project” they are very clear they don’t believe in God, yet want the land because God gave it to them. Not content with their current boundaries their desires are akin to recreating the Roman Empire. Insanity.

Worth remembering the settlers are doing this because they are allowed to do this. The state has created a quasi separate land grab scheme and they are the foot soldiers. This was how modern Israel was created. It worked pre 1947 of course they will continue.

I find it crazy that things like this keep happening in a place where people argue there is a democracy and equal rights for all. I can’t imagine this happening here.

The extreme and unchecked hatred of this particular group is scary. I would be interested to hear what actions are being taken in Israel to deescalate the cycle of violence.
