Where the hell are all the Palestinians meant to go now?
They were TOLD to go to Rafah, that Rafah was a safe place.
It’s just open extermination at this point.

However, the starvation the ICC is stating, I suspect, refers to the start of the war when Israel basically placed Gaza under siege, allowing no food or fuel in. They did change that relatively quickly

You'd suspect wrongly then it's happening now - the 'total siege' ended late October - thereafter only 20% of the food aid needed entered gaza some months it was much worse eg February only 7% some months a bit better

It's all in the OCHA graphs posted above at 01.57am.

Why on earth do you think there is enough food being supplied? It's frankly bizarre
Why do you think 30+ babies/children have died of starvation? Tip of the iceberg
Why do you think adults have lost an average of 10-15 kg during this time?
Why to you think a large % of the population is on the verge of famine?
Why do you think the US is monitoring 'famine indicators' and pressuring Israel to do more?

My god what the BBC headline is describing this morning is appalling.beyond words. How could they? Detainees shackled and blindfolded

I read that this morning and in the article the evidence is half from detainees and half from whistleblowing Israeli doctors who were forced to perform operations on handcuffed patients with no pain relief. One doctor talked about being forced to do invasive surgery on a handcuffed and blindfolded detainee who had not been told he was going to be operated on. The doctors called it torture and one said he would celebrate when the military hospital is closed.

This was all happening in prison and military field hospitals specifically set aside or set up for Palestinian detainees.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 21/05/2024 08:54

The violence towards the detainees in the hospitals was too much to read. I'm truly appalled.

ConnieCounter · 21/05/2024 09:38

God. Horrendous. They're really behaving like animals. Those who are shocked and horrified that the ICC would indict Hamas and Israeli leaders together should have a read of that report.

Auvergne63 · 21/05/2024 09:43

If they are doing this in an hospital, what are they doing in a prison?
The level of inhumanity is beyond belief.
I have no words.

I dont know why anyone would be shocked.

It’s only being done together because it’s the same conflict. It’s acknowledging that war crimes have been committed by both Hamas and Israel in the same conflict.

It isn’t meant to be a judgement on which is worse or to equate the state of Israel to a terrorist organisation.

Yes and they view these detainees as animals. I am not sure why the medics comply tbh. I don't think nhs doctors would, they always state you treat every patient the same it is not your place to judge your job is to save lives not contribute to their suffering

The article had one doctor saying the choice he was given was operate on the detainee as they are- handcuffed, blindfolded, no pain relief or refuse to operate and let them die.

The torture was psychological for the whistleblowing Israeli doctors who took their Hippocratic oath seriously.

One doctor did say that not all medics felt the same and they overheard staff room discussions on how to do a medical procedure in a way that would be revenge punishment on a detainee. As in deliberately make it more painful or life changing- one example was amputate a limb instead of treating an infected wound properly.

Sure. I agree. Biden and some posters here are shocked and horrified by it for some reason.

Just when you think human beings can't sink any lower, I feel sick reading this 😤

stormy4319trevor · 21/05/2024 13:29

What a terrible thing to ask of doctors. No wonder some are whistle blowing. It is truly horrifying and, given the news reports, I hope it will be investigated as part of the SA ICJ case. Or is it more appropriate to the ICC? It should not be allowed to pass. I don't know if allies have commented on this issue either?

This has been going on in prisons for decades, it's only now that the international world are listening.

stormy4319trevor · 21/05/2024 14:11

@poshsnobtwit That is clearly wrong, but I think this situation is worse, since these are detainees, who may later be released, and not convicted of anything.

The vast majority of prisoners have no convictions or charges either. When brought before a judge a random charge can be presented. It's enough to be Palestinian to imprisoned, tortured, sexually assaulted and even killed in detention. Human rights organizations have been trying to report on this for many years, but Israel just attempts to undermine them by labelling them as antisemitic.

1dayatatime · 21/05/2024 14:46

@Efacsen

"Just FYI Hamas didn't 'shell' anything - they don't have tanks and the rocket launcher used was located and destroyed by the IDF the next day - so not a repeated action by Hamas

The rocket attack wasn't on Kerem Shalom crossing itself but on the nearby IDF base where Israeli troops and tanks were massing prior to the invasion of eastern Rafah so an attack on troops rather than the humanitarian crossing point"

Just FYI - Hamas claimed they attacked a nearby Village DF base whereas the IDF claimed Hamas attacked the Kerem Shalom crossing. I will leave it to the reader as to whether they prefer to believe Hamas or the IDF.

Secondly the description of a rocket launcher " is somewhat generous. In reality it is simply four pieces of angle iron in an A Frame and uses home made rockets from pipes. So a repeated action is definitely feasible.

Thirdly nobody masses tanks and troops anymore - it simply makes a too attractive a target. But I understand that the term "massing" is more emotive and appeals more to the audience even if it is factually incorrect.

stormy4319trevor · 21/05/2024 14:53

@poshsnobtwit Yes, I see what you mean. Back last year I think the Save the Children report was posted on this board, detailing allegations of child abuse in Israeli military prisons. I can only hope the attention given to these reports will bring the wider issue to light as well. Medical torture, which the BBC and CNN reports seem to point to, is particularly horrifying to me. The debasement of medicine as a noble profession and of medical staff as caregivers is such a betrayal of civilised values.

I am wrong - the AP live feed cameras point over northern gaza not rafah and the IDF is complaining that the feed is exposing troop movements in the area
