Firstly, I am sorry if this is in the wrong thread because I am not Muslim.
I can't bear what is happening in Gaza.
Why is there so much hatred towards the Palestinians?
How can people justify what is happening?
I have marched, written to my MP and donated but I don't know what else to do.
I am not religious so praying is not an option.
What else can I do?

Who has forgotten the hostages? I think Netanyahu has.
To believe that Hamas is responsible for what is happening in Gaza is disingenuous and once again, absolves the Israeli government of any responsibility. Hamas has rejected the deals as much as the Israeli government has. Let's be precise. If you also believe that Netanyahu would have stopped if the hostages ( probably sadly dead now because of the indiscriminate bombing, starvation or lack of medical aid) had been released then please, read what he has publicly said about the matter on numerous occasions.
Barbarity is barbarity, regardless of who commits it. Do you disagree?
Finally you can also feel compassion for both Israeli civilians and Palestinians at the same time. It isn't mutually exclusive.

Radio 4 did a documentary on this. Winston Churchill deliberately and repeatedly refused to help. He was a racist and an antisemite too. This has been conveniently erased from history.

I think you would be hard pressed to find almost anyone in european upper classes /politics who wasn't an antisemite back then. it was the racism du jour. there is a reason why the holocaust happened, because it was allowed to!

It is awfully for all the people in Gaza. It was also horrendous what happened in October and all those poor people being held hostage. No good will come of any of it.
Massive trauma to innocent people on both sides.
This next phase with drone attacks between Iran and Israel will just deepen the divide.
I have no idea of the answer to sort the mess but it is terrifying the mess the human race is making all over the world.

I agree with you regarding the rampant antisemitism. The Allies were well aware of the existence of the camps but chose not to bomb the train tracks, leading to them. History is written by the winners so obviously anything "unflattering" is erased. For example, the Allies raped their way through Europe after the landings.

I understand this, I'm non Muslim too. I think what Hamas done is barbaric. Goodness me though what the state has done to Palestinian over 75 years is horrendous too. A long complex history of hatred in a land where once they lived more peacefully. And anyone on mumsnet dare tell me that I'm making that bit up. Having travelled to the land 20 years ago and talked to Orthodox Jews, Palestinian Christians and Muslim Palestinian Christians. To the OP, posters like this dont say that side of it. It's all a very complex, and innocents on both sides are caught up in the middle. The IDF has never been innocent, nor has the government.

Interesting point on educational curriculum. I noticed a distinct lack of acknowledgement of the slaughter of indigenous people in Canadian museums and educational literature, and I wonder if this is the case with shameful histories around the world. And if children are taught the sanitised and propagandised histories in their schools, perhaps this is why we end up with the polarised and intractable situation we have in Israel/Palestine today. It comes down to people being taught and believing in oppositional narratives and binaries with no leeway for shared humanity.

But to add, I am devastated by the huge suffering and loss of life in Gaza. I never thought I would see the destruction of a people in my life, yet I'm afraid this is what we are witnessing.

Can I ask why you never thought you would see the destruction of a people in your life? We have potential genocide happening in china against the Uigyur (very few mumsnet threads or mass protests), horrors in Darfur and here is a list of official genocides, with some very recent. It is striking how often people seem to think horrific loss of life in this war is somehow unique. While we shouldn't be desentised to suffering some rational analysis is also useful

oh gosh the history of Canada and North America is an absolute horror show. until recently I didn't realise how much the Canadian first born people continue to suffer even today.

honestly I feel humans everywhere are pretty awful. they all do horrific things to each other given half a chance.

@SharonEllis Indeed, there have been genocides, mass slaughter of people and attacks against ethnic minorities. However, the Palestinians are being killed and ethnically cleansed from all the OPT, including Gaza. It is not over, and we have insufficient information to know the deaths that will be caused by famine and disease as well as by bombs and guns. I am afraid that when this is over, there will be very few Palestinians left within the OPT. That might take many years, but it could feasibly happen within the current political approach. Their culture would undergo a similar demise. I see no end in sight and I am afraid that we are witnessing not just mass killing, but the end of a people, culture and civilisation. I am simply expressing my feelings, as the thread seems to invite, and my deepest fear that something heinous, in which the west is deeply implicated, may yet occur.
