There are conscientious objectors every year. He's just getting more Western airtime/attention that the others have gotten, because of the situation. Usually they're sent back and forwards to prison (military) a number of times before being left alone. However, the process they pay is largely social - and at 18, that's particularly heavy. ALL your peers are joining up, socialise around it, talk about it, carry guns and pose around with them etc (I'm talking in more "normal" times). It's a rite of passage, a part of becoming adult in Israel. To opt out of military service is to opt out of an entire social scene. It's indeed very brave.

Nice try, but really, if you read Hamas' charter, you'll see that they want a Muslim state between the two waters, but not one without Jews, one without Zionists. Listen to their words, they talk about Zionists, and about getting rid of the Israeli state. They specifically state they don't have a problem with Jews.

Hmm, how to achieve this perfectly reasonable aim? How to go about the eradication of the Israeli state and all those pesky Zionists without accidentally murdering Jews when they’re inexplicably just everywhere in Israel, getting in the way of all those missiles, border attacks, car rammings, bombings and shootings? @25milesfromhome Ah yes, and the IDF are just innocent bystanders in all this. They do nothing but protect themselves against terrorists. I just watched a video from 2016 of an Israeli soldier shooting a Palestinian man who was handcuffed and blindfolded. Firstly evacuate [by force if need be] all those Israelis who are 'in the way' - for their own safety to designated 'safe zones' which get smaller and smaller so easier to secure

This would definitely keep the Israeli population 'safe' from harm
