@EllaDisenchanted I wish I was more surprised, but having seen a short documentary about the brainwashing and radicalisation that goes on in the schools, I am not.

”A telegram channel, run by @UNRWA teacher Waseem Ula under the username “Handsome” (أ. وسيم)”

Google translate says that the Arabic means Mr Wassim not Handsome? That’s just his surname with Google translate quirky spelling isn’t it?

And the screenshot shows his username is Wasseemula not A. Handsome?

So those posts must be by some random Hamas supporter? Not him?

Sort of makes me leery of the rest of it. Similar to the faked photoshop IDF post admitting the strike on Ah-Ahli hospital when it was Palestinian Jihad.

Is there a full report somewhere with more detail?

Interesting - I've just run it through google translate and it came up as handsome but also A.wasim.

The source Hen quotes is UNWatch. This is their article on this:

Thank you for the link

The confusion is because the meaning of his name in Arabic or in the Quran in fact is Handsome/distinguished looking or something similar to that.

As in the meaning of the name Paul is small / humble in Latin

EllaDisenchanted · 10/01/2024 20:50

ah that makes sense, thanks @Trulywonderful

Trulywonderful · 10/01/2024 20:51

The idiot is probably a bit in love with himself and uses it as a username or something

I once knew a boy called Dior he expected everyone to adore him.

noblegiraffe · 10/01/2024 21:08

Someone with the username TrulyWonderful dissing someone with the username Handsome Grin

Good point 😂

If I was a Mr Men book character I would be Little Miss Amazing. I definitely don't do humble 😁

Appalling that the international community seems to have forgotten October 7.

Yaari Cohen has collated some more of the attack footage. I'd debated whether or not to post it but decided to as this thread is after all intended to collate the atrocities, however it's obviously extremely distressing.

X has already removed some of the images so I don't know if much of the post will remain up.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/01/2024 23:34

I'm not following the UN genocide thread but I do wonder about the UN process and whether there will be the capacity for Israel to speak about the atrocities committed against them, as well as the Palestinian desire to erase Israel and also to tease out the evidence concerning Hamas' use of civilians and instructions to civilians not to evacuate. Whereas I am deeply saddened and uncomfortable with what is happening in Gaza and shocked at the destruction and loss of human life, I also wonder what the international community would have done if Israel had not declared war. I'm guessing nothing and Gaza would have gone on being subject to an unelected government (despite this being a contravention of Civil and Political Rights), closed borders, and precarious access to resources and health care because of Hamas' thefts and impetus to put resources and energy into tunnel building and weaponry while its leaders lived offshore and in luxury, amassing their billions. I'm shocked, but not surprised, that the bad guy is Israel and not Hamas and that energy has over the years been focused on Israel and not on seeking an end to Hamas' rule and peace negotiations with Israel. I say this as someone without any Jewish history or identity and who is relatively neutral and watching from the sidelines with no skin in the game.

I am a long-time member of the feminist left and I'm stunned at the number of lefty friends who are anti-Israel (anti-Jewish) and who are frothing at the mouth about Gaza and excusing the attacks on women on October 7 (despite being proponents of CEDAW). The level of emotion displayed by people who like me have no real connections on either side of the issue is deeply disturbing and I know they are being fed by their social media towards a frenzy of hate towards Israel. Their lack of ability to fact-check about previous wars and belief that what has happened in the ME is totally and solely about Israeli aggression concerns me. They are totally led by emotion.

I wish I believed that the UN would be truly impartial but I don't. I think we are in a new age of popularism and the same kind of popular emotion that has seen Trump elected as well as other popularist leaders has permeated deeply into human consciousness, the media, governments, policy making and the courts, including that of the UN.

@YetAnotherSpartacus

I wonder though if the action taken by the Hague will be viewed as a mistake by SA eventually. There is no evidence of genocide as the Israeli action has one objective that of rightly removing Hamas. All actions in Gaza I would be imagine can be attributed to this legitimate military goal. There has been no systematic rounding up and execution or displacement of civilians.

If Israel is exonerated there will be no option for the media to publish the judgment and of course you will just have many on the Dr left denounce the court itself which is ultimately self defeating.

if Israel is found guilty then remember Israel is backed by major Western powers who would want to overrule the judgment of simply ensure nothing results of it. The only result will be to inflame Israeli opinion and undermine international law especially if there is true genocide in the future e.g. Rwanda previously. We would Also have to explore how any country could rightly defend itself against a group that use s human shields as defnece.

I think ultimately the case was brought to bring headlines rather than having any real legal impact.

I agree, interesting analysis. Lots of noise and distraction.

It takes time and effort to nurture critical thinking , the internet generations are used to instant gratification.

stomachameleon · 12/01/2024 09:35

@SomeCatFromJapan maybe that should be posted on the South Africa genocide thread? They are already bracing themselves for 'the clowns' today and Israel not being found guilty of anything (because all the judges are bias obviously)
It's just so deeply offensive.

There’s no winning today for Israel. If SA lose, it will be ‘proof’ that Israel (ie jews) control the media

EllaDisenchanted · 12/01/2024 11:19

Then you can simply call that kind of attitude out as a Shifting The Goalposts Fallacy in addition to it being anti-semitic. 👍
