The Balfour declaration 1917 was made by the British foreign minister to Zionists (via a letter to a Rothschild who was part of the Zionist movement) promising a various things, and Balfour's action is widely believed (I think) to have been motivated by the need/desire of Britain to have good international relations with those who supported the creation of a Jewish state. And, basically, I think it would be a fair hypothesis that the same motivations which existed then, exist now. There was confusion and mayhem and chaos about how it was managed right from the start - if there had been consultations and negotiations back in 1915-7 with both the Palestinians and the Zionists and more clarity around the agreements withe Arabs in 1915, this conflict may never have started.

Who knows maybe it's as simple as Biden wants to relocate to Israel with his family after his presidency is over 🤷‍♀️

Good friends with “Bibi” going back 50 years.

I believe there is a lot of lying all around.

Israel knows that their decision to continue is internationally unpopular, so they're putting out a lot of stories, of which a good number can't be verified.

I also notice that on all social media, including Mumsnet, there are endless threads in support of them, trying to drown out any other noise.

You'd be forgiven for thinking, on here, that they are wildly popular, whilst we know that isn't the case. I wonder why?

All of this is just biased supposition and it isn’t actually a popularity contest, what a childish view. It’s clearly visible who on MN thinks this is some sort of game they want to win by drowning out viewpoints they don’t want to hear or want other people to consider.
There are many who don’t see things in quite such simplistically binary terms and out in the real world, nuanced conversations are taking place that go beyond “But Netanyahu! But the IDF! Israel bad!”, so the level of support for Israel is only really surprising to posters who choose to keep themselves wholly ignorant of events and conversations beyond their own reductive echo chamber.

Some of them were journalists who have been released. Who knows who all the others are.

Journalist carries a very murky definition within Gaza these days, even Hamas has gone on record to say that the free press in the statelet is non existence. I doubt they were actual journalists, just people calling themselves journalists. Propagandist shills for Hamas would be more accurate.
