Why Can't Gazans Leave?

miniaturepixieonacid · 04/12/2023 13:25

There is probably a very simple answer to this that I missed in early news reports.

It's so awful watching News Feeds that essentially seem to say that Gazans are having to move around in a cat and mouse game with the IDF to avoid bombs but have nowhere left to go.

I am very aware that war has casualties and other countries are at war. I am not necessarily saying that IDF should stop fighting.

But this war is different in that all civilians seem to be trapped. Normally war creates refugees. Ukrainians, Afghans, Syrians - they were able to get out. Not all, I know, but movement was an option and it kept civilian casualties down. Why can't Gazans leave Gaza?

Israel has a much better regime than most of the regimes around its borders. It is a beacon of cope in a sea of terrible regimes from Iran to Saudi. Some of those nations are enemies of the UK. Iran calls the UK the little Satan so much does it hate us. Every Israeli has a right to vote including arab Israeli citizens. Some posters on MN seem to like to portray Israel in a very unfair way which does not represent the facts.

Agree with all of this, and to add that sadly Arab Israelis were also murdered by Hamas on October 7th for being supposed “traitors”. There is an amazing story of an Arab Israeli family who risked their lives to save a Jewish woman. People who think all Arabs or Palestinians hate Jews and think all Jews deserve it are being racist in both directions.

Whatamidoinhere · 08/12/2023 10:50

May I also mention that Israel, the right wing state, the only "democracy" in the middle east, beats its own Jewish citizens to oblivion if they object to Israel's policies?

Likewise this is the story of an Israeli woman who still helps Palestinians despite the October 7th attack
There are good people on both sides who want to live in peace with each other
Many of those who were murdered in the Kibbutz were also peace activists

Parkingt111 · 08/12/2023 11:08

Unfortunately right now the voices of those who wish for peace on both sides are being drowned out by those who only have hate for each other
This is what war does

paladium · 08/12/2023 11:12

@Parkingt111 thank you for your thoughtful posts. I agree.

stomachameleon · 08/12/2023 11:20

We probably all just need to chill a bit (respectfully)
@Parkingt111 that was a really lovely story. A lot of good things used to be done at those kibbutz's and I am sure Palestinians who benefited from the hospital runs etc are devastated the people they liked where targeted.

Can I just say it doesn't help to be confronted by long emotive posts alluding to the fact we are psychotic or devoid of emotion. Have some enormous character flaws. That is clearly not true. We all post for different reasons and being lived experience to the table.

We are also not the Israeli government, Palestinian (in Gaza) or Hamas so not spokespeople.

Please let's just be kind. Most people on uses are more than capable of discussion civilly.

Agree with this, and comments on our bad genes and generational trauma definitely push the conversation into racism.

This is the Arab-Israeli family I was talking about by the way. I didn’t realise in fact it wasn’t just Aya that they saved, it was multiple people. Incredible story here:

Parkingt111 · 08/12/2023 12:01

Yes and back to my original point
There's going to be another vote for a ceasefire soon
If it is vetoed and it doesn't go through then the focus should be on saving whoever can be saved and whoever wants to leave
Otherwise alot more will die, it is already catastrophic, I have seen the reports of refugee camps being firebombed today and already it is being mentioned that even the safe zone of Mawasi which civilians moved towards despite it being barren and devoid of infrastructure for daily life that it could still be targeted
It sounds very blunt but I do think that is the unfortunate reality

Just save as many lives as possible

Respectfully, nobody was referring to genetics or generational trauma with respect to any particular group of people, any race or any religion. This was not the implication of any poster.

The comments were about people in general who approve of the genocidal tactics currently ongoing.

Whatamidoinhere · 08/12/2023 12:14

@paladium Thank you. We were not criticising race or religion. More so the ideologies and genocidal tactics.

Efacsen · 08/12/2023 12:27

@Parkingt111 maybe it's too difficult to think about especially considering that if the ceasefire vote fails the already dire situation spirals off into what the UN are calling 'the point of no return'

I find it hard to imagine how those who want to leave could actually leave - Israel and Egypt would likely not co-operate for their own different reasons. And who could administer such a task

I'm sorry to be so negative - I fear a more chaotic violent departure if it happens for example if the IDF bombards the Hamas rocket-launchers at al Mawasi then a panicked crowd of 50, 000 starving desperate people at the Rafah gate...................

A ceasefire for these people would save their lives at least for the time being but it's like hoping for a miracle

Parkingt111 · 08/12/2023 12:32

@Efacsen sadly that seems to be right 😞
I think the only hope now is a ceasefire for atleast some relief

stomachameleon · 08/12/2023 12:40

@paladium people wouldn't be that stupid would they? But the insinuation was there.

cauliflowerwaterfall · 08/12/2023 08:13

They all terror suspects, all of them.

The surrender is a good thing.

Dear god, they haven’t surrendered, these are innocent civilian men and boys rounds up, striped, blindfolded and humiliated, pictured kneeling by a dug out pit. All Palestines are terrorists are they ? That’s a hate crime right there, you should be ashamed of yourself !!

There was no insinuation or implication it had anything to do with anyone's race or religion and I categorically reject your smear attempt.

stomachameleon · 08/12/2023 13:04

@Livinginanotherworld the point is.... none of us know either way do we?

Efacsen · 08/12/2023 13:05

This is the account of the detained men on Al Jazeera - so usual caveats

Number of detained Palestinians released

Alan Fisher
Reporting from occupied East Jerusalem

We’ve managed to confirm that a number of Palestinians who were arrested in and around Beit Lahia in northern Gaza have been released.

The Israeli army says a few of them had surrendered, but many of them were at the UN schools thinking that was a safe haven, and suddenly, the army appeared and took them away.

Some of these men would have been interrogated by the Israeli army and also by Shin Bet, the intelligence service, and that would’ve happened either in Israel or in a special facility that has been created in Gaza.

One person were identified by locals as a student. One man was there with his two children. Another was described as a shopkeeper with no links to Hamas. And there was a well-known local journalist among them.

Note not everyone has been released

orangeblossom23 · 08/12/2023 13:14

The truth is nobody wants them. None of the 22 Arab states will help because of the risk of terrorism ( they have their own issues) Unfortunately Gaza is run by terrorists - nobody wants them.
Egypt will use excuses like " we dont support the mass deportation of people" all lies.

@stomachameleon In that particular 'yet seemingly so many of them' comment I was referring to the multitude of posters on this thread and others here on MN and across the web and world who are seemingly approving of and cheering on the genocidal tactics.

As I have already clarified TWICE above, it had absolutely nothing to do with anyone's race or religion. Enough of the nasty smearing. I categorically reject it. FFS.
