Conflict in the Middle East

Do lots of people support Hamas?

I just read this story and it is absolutely horrific

I saw ten Hamas terrorists beat and gang-rape an Israeli woman

https://mol.im/a/12820081

Is everyone on the pro-Palestine marches in London solely supporting the innocent civilians of Palestine (as I do too)? Or are there some people on these marches supporting the actions of Hamas as well?

I want to join the marches in support of innocent adults and kids in Gaza (and I would want to march for the same reasons on any pro Israel marches too), but I do not want to endorse Hamas in any shape or form. They are absolutely vile.

Ah Daily Mail, the best news source of information.

Yes, it is pretty good at covering the Israel - Hamas conflict and has some interesting articles.

I was actually going to cite some examples of worst atrocities that Israel can get away with but everything I thought of, it's already done
Genocide and mass killings? Tick
Point blank shooting of innocents (Rachel Corrie, Shireen Abu Akleh, 9 year olds) - done
Leaving babies to die - check
Rape, sodomy, torture - check check check
Pretty much everything tick tick tick

marvellousceiling · 05/12/2023 17:52

@Chaitales this.

Sometimes things are just so funny you're lost for words. I mean... Daily Mail.... Like the least credible newspaper.. Might as well read a Charlie Brown comic strip

The systematic rape of women on Oct 7th discussed in detail on the bbc
www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-67629181
Now I cannot see that this can be purely seen as a natural consequence of an oppressor , brutal rape and mutilation?

I don’t know if detractors will find this source any more credible. Also talks about potential plans to flood the tunnels. https://www.thejc.com/news/israel/hamas-drugged-freed-hostages-to-make-them-seem-happy-after-50-days-in-captivity-bkpfvgqz

Of course not. It has the word Jewish in the name.

True. Could be quite challenging for some.

We need to await the approved list of sources that some posters will accept.

Tik Tok and Electric Intifida already made the list

Yes, the Daily Mail and the comments that come from many of its readers are questionable. It's the way they word things to tey to create maximum froth and outrage.

I think it would cause a pile on, to be quite honest! I think a lot of people forget Gaza and the West Bank are also people's homes, and in (apparently) targeting Hamas, these are also destroyed.

Posters have made it clear that they think all of Gaza and West Bank are involved in Hamas and armed conflict and recruited from birth. So I don't think they think of them as "people", but just objects to be killed

Rachel Corrie was not shot! Rachel was brutally crushed to death when they drove over her with a bulldozer. Her last words were "my back is broken".

At the risk of totally outing myself: I knew Rachel, and I knew people who were there when she was killed. I have met her family!

Rachel did not get the mercy of a quick, painless shot to the head!

EDIT: sorry, not sorry! But this is fucking emotional even decades later! I knew her and she did not deserve to die crushed to nothing in a pile of rubble! I just still get angry!

I stand corrected, apologies. Yes I remember the images of her standing in front of the bulldozer now.

There are very few people that actually condone Hamas. I've not come across any myself. Unfortunately the media has people believe that if you support Palestine then you must support Hamas when that is untrue 😒 The marches are not pro-Hamas.

I came across someone today who does (and who refused to accept that the 7th Oct attacks happened). But that's the first time I have knowingly met someone who believes that, though obviously I meet lots of people with whom I do not discuss the Middle East situation!

No need to apologise on your part - I misremember things all the time!

I did not mean to have a go at you! It is just that --- see above: I knew her! I feel hurt again every time her name is mentioned!

And, no, it is not because she was an American - it is more just that: nobody ever mentions any of the Palestinian names that would make me feel the same. They are forgotten!

Rachel, at the very least, is remembered! They broke her back! Her mum is called Cindy, her dad is Craig! She had a name, she has a family! As did all the others!

Again, I was not having a go at you!

No, I know - but it's important for me to not misremember here too - if I'm spending valuable time amplifying the Palestinian perspective in the face of an intense media and ground war against them, I want to make sure I am not saying anything that's incorrect.

Also - I know what you mean re remembering Rachel. I hope her family and loved ones are okay. Every life lost is such a tragedy - as the Quran says,

"--- whoever takes a life—it will be as if they killed all of humanity; and whoever saves a life, it will be as if they saved all of humanity."
