Conflict in the Middle East
Ecdysiast · 08/11/2023 06:27

@Bells3032
And I think it's very easy to sit in your arm chair and say you wouldn't do this or that but you're not living there and you don't know how you'd feel.

So in that case no one should be able to have an opinion on any issue if they are not 'living there'?
I'm not entitled to have an opinion on Trump if I don't live in the US? No right to an opinion on Russia if I don't live in Ukraine? I wasn't alive during the Holocaust, so I guess I've no right to an opinion on that?

NotTerfNorCis · 08/11/2023 07:28

This is terrorism.

Slaughtering of 10,000 innocent lives.

Most of whom are children.

How do you sleep at night?

Unfortunately they don't care that they are committing war crimes and seemingly have the support of Biden, Europe and our PM, so they are doing this with impunity, it's a tragedy.

curaçao · 08/11/2023 08:31

If Israel was undiscriminately bombing such a small denslely populated area, thw death toll would be in the hundreds of thousands

This thread is absolutely full of unevidenced claims and a fair bit of outright nonsense taken straight from social media. You could all do with going away and reading a few actual books about the conflict - even the Wikipedia pages on the history of Israel and Palestine would be a start.

What's unsubstantiated @asterel ? The decimation of Gaza is happening before our eyes. Are you blind?

As for books on the background of the conflict, here are some recommendations:

  • The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine' by Ilan Pappe if you need to know more about the history of the conflict.

-The Biggest Prison on Earth' by the same author is good for those who want to know more about life under occupation.

-For anyone specifically interested in Gaza, I recommend 'The Punishment of Gaza' by Gideon Levy and 'Drinking the Sea at Gaza' by Amira Hass

This can't be reiterated enough.

So many recent armchair experts who've never looked at world history before in their life.

@curaçao So I suppose they are precision bombing the 10000+ they have killed? Have you seen the destruction? If this is their precision bombing, I wonder what indiscriminate bombing would look like. Maybe using one of their nukes as some in the Israeli government have suggested? That wouldn't be great for the hostages, of course, but they could just blame Hamas for the hostages and I'm sure many of their sympathisers would lap it up.

What makes you think that because you don't agree with other posters that the claims are unevidenced? It's all playing out in real time. Everyone can see what is happening. SM is the only way Palestinian people can make their voice heard to the rest of the world - who don't actually seem to give a fuck right now.

Please don't patronise others by telling them to go and read up on the conflict because you don't particularly want to hear or see the plight of a displaced people or the slaughter of at least 4000 children.

Both Palestine and Israel deserve to be free of the criminals who capitalise on death.

scrantonelectriccity · 06/11/2023 17:52

They're not interested in negotiating for the hostages back though

To be fair you can’t negotiate with a death cult.

Neither can you with an unhinged despot, but there you go.

RudsyFarmer · 08/11/2023 09:41

Which is why there is a war. Always the same.

Toothyfruity · 08/11/2023 09:49

I can't believe that there are still mothers on these threads justifying the murder of 4100 children in the past month.

I can't understand why you don't see that this is sick and wrong? If it was any other place on earth other than Palestine you would be horrified and appalled.

Ecdysiast · 08/11/2023 09:51

RudsyFarmer · 08/11/2023 09:29

@RudsyFarmer The Israeli state was founded through violence, force and coercion and maintains itself today using the same tactics. So yes, you could call them a 'death cult' if you like. Maybe that's how Hamas came into being - violent coercion clearly works in Israel's favour, maybe Hamas figured it could work for them too.

YouJustDoYou · 08/11/2023 09:58

I can't believe Hamas have said "Gazian blood spilled has been a necessity".

Well, actually I can believe that, seeing as they're murderous terrorists who have taken all the wealth for themselves and happily use their own citizens as human shields and have not one shred of humanity in them.

What about the guys who killed the 4000 kids? They're fine by you?

I’m on no one’s side to be clear. I’ve been very interested in various debates online from people who understand the political situation alongside the historical background. There are only losers in war.

I don't believe thet care what happens to the hostages anymore, if they ever did in the first place

They can't afford to give in to the emotional blackmail of terrorists. In 2006, they exchanged 1000 Palestinian prisoners for 1 Israeli soldier. Many of those released went on to commit terrorist attacks.

https://www.nytimes.com/article/israel-hostages-hamas-explained.html#:~:text=In%202006%2C%20Gaza%20militants%20seized%20an%20Israeli%20soldier%2C%20Gilad%20Shalit%2C%20and%20Hamas%20held%20him%20for%20five%20years.%20He%20was%20exchanged%20for%20more%20than%201%2C000%20Palestinian%20prisoners%2C%20many%20of%20whom%20had%20been%20convicted%20of%20deadly%20attacks%20against%20Israelis

Ecdysiast · 08/11/2023 10:39

@Alcemeg Maybe Israel could release the 160 Palestinian children it has detained for a start?
But I doubt they will. According to Israel's current Finance Minister (who is also in charge of managing the occupied West Bank), if a Palestinian child were to throw stones (at an occupying soldier): "Either I will shoot him, or I will jail him, or I will expel him."
Age is not a consideration either, as you can see in this example:https://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/2018-03-28/ty-article/.premium/border-police-briefly-detain-three-year-old-palestinian-in-hebron/0000017f-e0a2-d75c-a7ff-fcaf752a0000

Genocide
TakeMe2Insanity · 08/11/2023 10:52

Israel ia the only country in the world to send children to trial in military courts. That’s screwed up! They keep small children locked in cages. How is any of this normal? How can you expect sane, rational humans to exit a system? Of course they’ll be traumatised.

They are evil and all with our PM's blessing.

AllWeWantToDo · 08/11/2023 20:42

I'm really not surprised the way Palestinians are treated. Bombing the hell out of them isn't going to do much to stop young people turning to terrorism either I wouldn't think unfortunately

Gaza has been bombing the hell out of Israel for years. The only difference is that Israel installed a missile defense system to protect its citizens, instead of using them as human shields.

Hardly 'bombing the hell out of'. More like 'trying to bomb but with little effect'.

Do you think Israel would tolerate the Palestinians setting up a sophisticated defence system? Are the Palestinians in an economic position to do so? They're living in a giant prison camp.

Hamas has a budget of $30 million, they could have done a bit more with it than just creating misery all around.

Hellostrawberries · 06/11/2023 17:40

I personally don't regard them as criminals but if you mean the IDF I believe the answer is when the hostages are released.

How will the hostages be realised safely with non stop bombing? Just let them walk out into gaza city?
Its been made clear they wont stop bombing the only people bothered about the hostages are their families, the idf are just using them as a reason for this to happen if they where bothered about them they would ceasefire an see if they are realised!!
