Conflict in the Middle East

A supportive thread for Palestinian civilians - with a caveat

What Hamas did was absolutely deplorable, but every thread that is raised in support of Palestinians is derailed by the "what about Hamas" posters, which although an important point, derails all of them from being somewhere we can truly support and voice concern for innocent Palestinian civilians in the face of what is going on.

I would like to propose a thread in support of Palestinian people at this time but I would like to ask people to keep it as a supportive thread for Palestinians, and ask that people refrain from bringing posts about Hamas into it, in order to focus on the plight of innocent Palestinian children and civilians.

Does that sound fair?

For the first post, I'd like to highlight a charity that is vetted and genuine, if you'd like to make a donation to help support Palestinian children.

https://www.pcrf.net/

From their website:

Efficiency And Transparency
We are proud to be one of the most respected and active nonprofit humanitarian medical relief organizations working in the Middle East. For ten straight years, we have received Charity Navigators’ coveted 4-star rating, demonstrating strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency. Only 3% of charities evaluated have received this rating.

PCRF

The Palestine Children's Relief Fund was established in 1992 by concerned humanitarians in the USA to bring injured and sick children for free medical care they could not get locally

I'd also like to highlight this website which contains many stories from innocent Palestinian civilians, and insight into what is going on both now and in recent years:

Op I really hope your thread continues as you want it too, although I'm sure the bots will be along soon.

Thank you for creating this, I can't stop thinking of the thousands of women due to give birth over the coming weeks with no pain relief, fresh water or safety.

I just can't imagine what it must feel like to be on edge and in fear for your life all day, every day. For those who have survived so far, things like dealing with dust from the rubble in your eyes, mouth and throat without being able to rinse or cleanse as you have no water, the ringing in your ears from the sound of the bombs, the lack of sleep, the stench from the bodies beneath the rubble and the lack of sanitisation/waste disposal. I just can't even begin to imagine what it must all feel like. 😢

Some women are having to have c sections without anaesthetic now because resources are so scarce. Babies that have been killed by air strikes on the day they were born. I can't imagine the fear those pregnant women must have right now.

It must be awful being a Palestinian who does not support Hamas and the crippling effect they have on Gaza. Unfortunately they were voted in with a healthy majority and Jihad and the eradication of the state of Israel and all Jews is their only goal. Hamas are not interested in peace so there you have it. It’s a living nightmare.

Thank you for this thread. What we are watching is the obliteration of a group of people, ethnic cleansing. The Palestinians have already been ghettoised and have lived under control and fear for a very long time, now they are being forced out of their homes, into refugee camps and are being bombarded day and night, as well as being starved and denied access to water. They are as much (if not worse) victims of Hamas as the Israelis are. Hamas have played right into the hands of Netanyahu who now thinks he has a green light to wipe out Gaza. The West Bank will be next.
And yet our government stands by as cheerleaders to the IDF.

They were voted in in 2007. 50% of Gazans weren't even born then.
And do we think Hamas ran a legitimate political campaign that was free from threats and fear?
Consider also why people become radicalised. What state must they be in to vote for a terrorist organisation? Desperate? Disenfranchised? Dehumanised?

OhDoPutASockInItDear · 02/11/2023 01:14

@TicketyBoo11 it's horrific, isn't it? I struggle to see why any Palestinian would support Hamas at all considering they have been so oppressed by them. It boggles the mind.

Noicant · 02/11/2023 07:09

I feel for the Palestinian people, I know Palestinians, all good decent people who are extremely worried about not just family in Gaza but also the West Bank. One day I hope there is peace for everyone.
