This much we can agree on!

Another attempt at - to unashamedly quote Tracy Chapman: "if not now, then WHEN?"

Can we please have a thread about things we can all actually subscribe to? Respectful disagreements welcome! Bold proposals welcome!

I shall start:

  1. All children are innocent and inherently deserve our compassion, our advocacy, our voices - whoever and whereever they are - on the grounds that they are too young to be punished for whatever their parents or grandparents have done!
  2. Ordinary people - regardless of their political opinions - must not be punished for the actions of their leaders unless they have demonstrably and personally engaged in activity that supports the same (a.k.a. "I would prefer not to be punished for what Rishi says and does!").
  3. Antisemitism is categorically wrong!
  4. Islamophobia is categorically wrong"
  5. Anti-Palestinianism is categorically wrong!

That many of the opinions people hold about the conflict are poorly informed and naïve

@Sourisblanche if it hadn't been for the wonderful behaviour of two men:

Gerry Adams & John Hume

Both putting down their mutual animosity hatred & actively and powerfully moving the peace process and walking away from the years of killing and death on both sides and their personal not insignificant losses in their families and communities and embracing peace then we would never have had the Good Friday Agreement.

Both of these men will be remembered well (rightly) by history.

The only way to end terrorism is talking.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

@caringcarer there are other threads where you can peddle propaganda. This is a thread for agreeing & hoping for peace for the most part & from the majority of us.

Sourisblanche · 04/11/2023 19:53

@beachcitygirl well I wouldn’t describe his behaviour as wonderful, but wars do end eventually after negotiation with people who have done terrible things.

I have one. When you use dehumanising language, you become less empathetic.

Collateral damage
Human shield
Gazans
Causalities

Children. As loved and cared for and wanted and cherished as the ones asleep in my house. And the mums and dads sniffed their heads and kissed their feet and worried and tucked them in. Just as many times as I have
I agree with you.

One of mine for the thread would be: you can't bomb a terrorist ideology out of existence, but you sure can ensure another generation of traumatised children are fertile ground for radicalisation
