Conflict in the Middle East

Coughingdodger · 25/10/2023 19:53

Apologies, I’ve already posted the above link in two other threads just now but I feel it deserves not to be buried.

Israel has a right to defend itself in the face of all the human rights organisations who say they're targeting civilians, targeting civilian structures, and that there are no Hamas people near where they target.

Wink wink.

Dinkydaisy1 · 25/10/2023 20:01

Can all news channels and papers please only report that Israel is defending itself. Clearly saying anything that shows that Palestinians are humans too and that the land was anything but a barren ground before feeds into an anti Israeli anti semitic rhetoric.

Real press conference. You cannot make this up.

ahtehnai · 25/10/2023 20:41

Israel is just defending itself…

Super lazy. That's just shutting down any criticism whatsoever by instantly labelling war slogans versus actually thinking about actions. You are choosing to see events or behaviours only through your vision and shutting down any discourse - whether it's UN, AMNESTY, WHO, who are all labelled as wrong if they don't agree with you, yet if anyone argues against actions of your govt they are equated with nazis.

CatsArePawesome · 25/10/2023 21:17

Note how defenders of Israel’s atrocities merely try to shut down the conversation.

According to the last but one post in this thread, Amnesty, the UN, the UNHRC, B'Tselem, Oxfam, Human Rights Watch, the Red Cross, the International Court of Justice and Doctors Without Borders should all be consisted Nazis.

My gov't? What?

It's a screenshot of a demented Zionist I'm showing for chilling stuff because people are calling Israel out for the war criming fucks they are.

Here's another demented take if you liked that one.

Israel is just defending itself…
ahtehnai · 25/10/2023 21:19

Also, this.

"Are we the baddies?"

Israel is just defending itself…
CatsArePawesome · 25/10/2023 21:20

Right I think it read as if that screenshot were your opinion, hence our replies. Solidarity.

I was reminded of this.

Dinkydaisy1 · 25/10/2023 21:23

Thanks for clarifying, @ahtehnai . It read the other way.

Agree, it's so ridiculous.

ahtehnai · 25/10/2023 21:23

TheresaOfAvila · 25/10/2023 21:21

I was reminded of this.

The same process practically going on with the hospital thing. They've already bombed two more since Al Ahli, and we're still debating if they even did that one.

Israel is just defending itself…
CatsArePawesome · 25/10/2023 21:28

Yes it’s a joke. Israel called ahead to say they were going to bomb the hospital, their official social media accounts gloated about it in the immediate aftermath before deleting the posts, they had been bombing in the vicinity of the hospital beforehand, they continued to bomb hospitals thereafter as you say. What’s to question here?

Coughingdodger · 25/10/2023 21:41

ahtehnai · 25/10/2023 20:41

.

I wouldn’t agree with tearing down hostage photos - who would do that? - or be happy about a charter that wants to harm Jewish people.

But for the other points on that list, I think they’re reasonable questions to raise with the Israeli government.

The US (or rather the neocons in the US) have been chomping at the bit to start a war with Iran for years. Presumably blowback is causing them buyers remorse.

If they were really worried about escalation it would help if Blinken didn't issue thinly veiled "fuck round and find out" threats against Iran in UN Security Council Meetings.

Well quite. I believe they had a list. Iran is unfinished business in the region.

Thing is, as you allude to, Iran can actually prosecute warfare competently. They can close the Strait of Hormuz and sink the global economy, then plink US warships from the coast with AShMs. F-35s will blow up, for war reasons this time.

And they have 90 million people. No boots on the ground is going to happen, the warhawks are dreaming and Lindsey Graham will have to die unfulfilled in his orgastic dream of nuking Tehran.

I've watched interviews with quite a few retired senior military officers and they share your assessment of how any attempt at a ground invasion, from the sea, in Iran would go.

In the meantime there are plenty of US military sites in Iraq and Syria within striking of Iran.

I don't think those clamouring for war have thought this through. We now have Chinese war ships in the region and Russia patroling the skies above the black sea loaded with Kinzhal missiles with a 2000k range that the US does not have the tech to intercept and two US aircraft carriers like sitting ducks in the Eastern med.

If the US thought they would intimidate and act as a deterrent they have miscalculated and if they don't tone down the rhetoric they could be about to get their arses handed to them and drag the rest of us into it.

Coughingdodger · 25/10/2023 22:32

A lot going on potentially.

Hopefully we won’t look back on this week with nostalgia as “only” 5000 - 6000 innocents in Gaza and over 1000 in Israel were killed.

By which I mean, for clarity, I hope things don’t get a lot worse.

I think the West is well and truly having its chain pulled by 'the only democracy in the middle east'. Let's hope we don't all get flushed down the toilet just so Netanyahu can pretend he's the messiah. If this isn't proof he's delusional and insane then I don't know what does.

Not even "pretend to be the Messiah" ...

... for Bibi, things are a lot more trivial than that: given his current situation, he must either remain PM (and, ideally: achieve some kind of a "so heroic that basically unassaible" status, or - failing that - at least remain at war and credible in terms of "horse, mid-race, ... you get the drift"), or he has the other option of, well ... dealing with his multiple indictments and most certainly not being helped if his newly acquired image is "the man responsible for this entire debacle".

His coalition partners (if one can call racial supremacist ultra-far-rightwingers that) meanwhile have some ideological goals to meet - and the opportunity looks too good to miss to them!

Technically, there are arguably myriad "better for Israel, from a strategic and geopolitical perspective" ways this could be going right now. But they are not "better for Netanyahu and his racial supremacist cronies"!

I'm staggered that Israel are saying things like they'll wipe Iran off the map of they get involved. I agree they are insane. Two aircraft carriers in the eastern med should not give them the confidence to be behaving like Billy big bollocks when they are surrounded by hostile neighbours and Pakistan is telling Turkey they will send them nukes if required!

The Israeli intelligence and military have already spectacularly failed and the entire world can see they are trying to intimidate their neighbours with a reputation that no longer holds and US support.

WTF is wrong with our political leaders? I really have come to the conclusion we are governed by idiots.

Netanyahu is fighting to make sure he doesn't get ousted and sent to jail before he can rig the law to make the judiciary answerable to him.

Democracy my arse.
